Please help...6 yr. old DS has large bald spot, strange! (X-Post in Hlth. & Healing.)

Can anyone advise me or give me the beginnings of a clue here? : Normally I give DS2 his bath but yesterday DH did. After (and when DS's hair was already dry) DH asked me if I had noticed the "big patch of missing hair on top." I said I hadn't & wasn't really concerned as if it was as he said it was I WOULD have noticed. I went & looked though & had to push his hair around a bit to see but there WAS a BIG spot with NO hair! HOW could it be missed...? So I figuered it was something recent, like it was pulled/caught on something...etc. I asked him & he had no idea what I was talking about. But it looks "clean." I don't know how to describe it, but like there wasn't ever hair there. It's weird! So, anyhow...today I gave him a bath & now I KNOW it JUST must have came out as when I shampooed his hair it was glaringly obvious. I would NOT have missed it before. I was quite unnerved. Any idea of what the cause could be? WWYD? TIA!

Hu? Could you elaborate a little, I am not at all educated on that. Will go search now though.
Thanks!

ETA- I looked at 2 sites that both say:

"Ringworm of the scalp may start as a small sore that resembles a pimple before becoming patchy, flaky, or scaly. It may cause some hair to fall out or break into stubbles. It can also cause the place where the infection is to become swollen, tender, and red."

It's clean & smooth, not itchy so I assume that's not what it is.

I'm mystified. It's just strange, it literally appeared overnight!

My daughter had ringworm of the scalp. She got it from her cousin who's parents insisted she didn't have it. : Anyway, it took months to get rid of and strong medication (before I knew better) that required them to test her kidneys. Anyway, it doesn't sound like what your DC has.

Is it possible he got something on his head like nair or some other chemical? I would keep an eye on it and if it gets bigger or you are really concerned take him to the doctor.

Are you sure that he didn't get a "haircut" from a sibling or friend? If you've got a pair of clippers in your house or he was at a friend's house that had clippers, maybe someone got a little experimental.

My husband had a case of ringworm a couple years ago, and it sounds very much like what you are describing. It was very clean, with no redness or swelling or hair stubble. And no itching. It was just a perfectly round, smooth patch of bald scalp about the size of a quarter. He took some anti-fungal pills for awhile, and the hair grew back. There are also some natural remedies, such as applying tea tree oil, but I'm not sure how effective they are.
