Crazy, crazy, crazy few days

Okay, so I haven't been posting much lately - here's the LONG story why. I posted a while back about the stupid saga with my broken tooth. I went in last Tuesday, and the dentist did the first part of what she needed to do. It was painful, but whatever - had to be done. Finally on Thursday I started feeling better from the birth - I'd been having a pretty tough recovery, I think it was partially due to the posterior position. I also had some problems with dehydration which was NOT fun. Anyway, Thursday evening I can tell that my tooth is getting infected. By night I am in horrible pain - sitting there bawling with an ice pack on my face. Somehow I made it through the night and was sitting in the dentist's office when she got there the next morning. She drained the tooth and wrote me a prescription for antibiotics (I had avoided that mostly because I didn't want Louis to get it through nursing and the possibility of thrush, but the pain was horrible.). The antibiotics didn't help even a little bit. I spent the weekend on prescription strength ibuprofen which only worked for about three hours at a time (you're supposed to take it every six hours) and spent the rest of the time bawling in pain. I was trying to tough it out until Tuesday when I had another appointment scheduled with the dentist.

So, Monday rolls around and I pick up my oldest daughter from school. She told me she hit her head in gym, and she is just not acting like herself. We get home and she starts throwing up. We pack the kiddos in the car and head to the urgent care center. They send us on to the emergency room. We spend five hours in the ER. Luckily, she is fine. She had a rough evening. She threw up several times and just felt awful. She hurt her neck when she fell, too. While we're in the ER, my pain medication wears off. I was trying so hard to not fall apart, but eventually I was sitting there with ice on my face bawling - again! The nurses felt so bad for me that they snuck me some ibuprofen. We finally (at 9:30pm) get some food in her, and she starts feeling better. We were up every couple of hours Monday night waking her up.

I kept her home on Tuesday and went to my dentist appointment. Not to make this story that much longer - I ended up getting the stupid tooth pulled - which, of course, was painful. I come home, and I am just wanting to lay around relax. Dh takes over and makes lunch for the kiddos and himself. All the sudden I hear him scream. The bread knife slipped and he sliced his finger open. So, we pack up all four kiddos - again - and go to the urgent care center - again. Now, ds1 and dd2 both slept in their clothes and hadn't changed - it had been a hectic day. I also had not changed Louis, so he was in the previous day's clothes. We go to the urgent care center with three kids in their dirty clothes that they'd been in the previous day. I still had this huge wad of gauze in my mouth, so I couldn't talk well - plus I looked like death warmed over. I looked at dh and said, "I'm really glad we're not here for another child's injury - these people would call social services on us!"

Anyway, it was a crazy few days. The good news is that I can eat again! By the evening, even though I'd just had a tooth pulled, I had less pain than I'd had in five days. I actually got the eat for the first time in days. I'd been living off soup and the occasional soft biscuit. My friend brought spaghetti with vegan meatballs, bread, salad and Uncle Eddie's vegan chocolate chip cookies (my fave) for dinner for us. I ate three helpings! It felt so awesome to be able to eat again. I hadn't had anything but a biscuit all day to eat - I was starving.

So far today - no injuries. I'm afraid to leave the house! Through it all - Louis has been wonderful. He rode around in the sling and barely made a noise. One of the reasons I had a homebirth was to keep him out of a germy hospital, and in the past three days he's been to the hospital once and urgent care center twice! Oh well.

I had to giggle at this part because a similar thing happened to me! I had DD#2 at home and still ended up in the ER with her 10 days later. Sigh.

I am so sorry you've been through so much! Hopefully you've now "paid your dues" and will have an extremely healthy streak for many, many months

Well, we made it through yesterday without injury - hooray! I was able to take about 1/4 of the ibuprofen I had been taking, so that's fabulous. I really hope our bad luck streak is over!

Glad to hear things are improving! How does that song go - "If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all!" Sounds like your tooth issue is finally resolved.

goodness Colorado! take it easy!! I think your plan to hunker down is a good one, maybe it's safest to stay inside for now

Sorry all that stuff happened to you and yours. Glad your tooth is finally better though, that must be a relief.

Best wishes to you and your family, be safe and take care, no more hospital trips for you!!
