Question about Waterbirth tub.

I am thinking of renting a waterbirth tub from Waterbirth international. It is a bit more expinsive than I thought it would be, but it looks like it comes with EVERYTHING I need. I also live about 45 minutes away so I can just go pick it up rather than paying the $125 shipping fee.

My question is, can anyone tell me if the tub is better than just getting a "kiddy" pool and using that? My main concern with the pool is that is wont be deep enough and since I am "bigger" I wont be fully submerged in the water. There is also the fact that the tub has a heater and sturdy sides to lean on where the pools sides are "blown up."

Anyway, thanks for the advice, I am 33 weeks tomorrow so I need to get on the ball and decide what to do.

well I have never even heard of waterbirth international but have you thought about this??

If you have any kind of feed stores or ranch supply stores they will carry water troughs and now days they are very nice.

We bought a 100 gallon tub from our local feed store, It is very deep and has a bottom hole for draining. We did not originally buy it for a water birth but I saw a few pictures of a lady who used one for her water birth and it was perfect. They are a Rubbermaid brand and are made of very hard plastic, very thick very sturdy. THey are dark grey so I would suggest lining it with a white sheet to aid seeing under the water.

Anyway it is an idea, they run about $100?

We have the octagonal fishy pool that many taller and sometimes bigger moms (like me!) have used with success. It's the deepest I could find at 25", and with shipping it cost us about $46, then we spent another $25 or so on the hose, etc for filling it up from the sink. My husband just inflated it last night, it's nice and big and the walls are very sturdy and thick, just like everyone had said; I got in and leaned back and it seems GREAT! Bottom of it is padded/inflated, too, which I think is nice. And I love fish, so I think it will be fun besides. And our two older kids are thrilled with the fish, too, and they'll get to use it next summer for their pool, so all in all I feel like it was money well spent and kind of fit into our budget (DH is in grad school) - fit better than any other option we could find, for sure.

There are a few older threads about pools for taller women, deep enough pools to cover your belly, etc - you may want to search for them, too.

Good luck making your decision!

Thanks everyone. I was thinking about renting the tub from the waterbirth place, but at $250, I am thinking I don't want to spend that much money when I have heard people say that they either didn't end up using the tub or didn't like it or something.

Octagonal Fishy pool

I was in the Octagonal fishy pool and it was plenty big enough for me. I'm only 5' 2" but was 286 when I got in it. Pouring boiling water in it kept it warm enough. Sadly I didn't get to deliver in it. The pool was 19.95 and with shipping came to 30something dollars. Our girls did use it this summer outside and it has since been packed away for next year or someone else's birth whichever comes first.

I used the blow up one from toys r us, it was $20.

It worked perfectly. I had lots of room and it retained the temp just fine.

Do you have a link?

Here's some links to pools, $20-$50:

Pool 1

Pool 2

Pool 3

And for a waterbirth, these three items are a must-have for ease of fill & draining. Available at Petsmart or on these links, around $20 for all three:

Faucet Adapter

Drain & Fill

Drinking Water-quality Hose
