shellfish vs. bivalves....

Anyone? Dd is allergic (IgE) to shellfish. I'm frustrated because we have a very limited list (or so it feels to me) of foods because of all the other allergies. Knowing that she is so reactive with shellfish, can I try bivalves? Are they too similar, or not close at all? Any advice?

IMO, I wouldn't mess with it. She's (if the girl is one of the kids linked in your siggie) still very young and forming that immune response. Shellfish and peanut are sooo problematic, I'd just hold off for as long as possible.

Which shellfish (I assume from yoru OP you mean crustaceans) did she test positive to? My dd tests positive to shrimp, for instance, but not to crab, scallops or clams. Go figure. I don't allow any of them at this point, and since she doesn't react to cross contamination with shrimp I am hopeful this is a blip. If I KNEW she reacted, I'd consider them all shellfish (seafood in a shell) and leave them out.

Her blood test said shrimp and clam but she reacted IRL to crab. You're right, sigh.
