Is the Alfie Kohn DVD worth the money?

I'd love to get something that DH and I could watch together. But it's only two hours -- is there a lot in there? I have to admit, I also like the idea of being able to lend it out and influence other parents...
Any feedback?
thanks,
Erin

YES, it is definitely worth the money. And lending it out is a great idea.

While I don't agree with everything Kohn says, watching the dvd with my DH was the best parenting thing we've done yet. It opened a lot of discussions between us, positive discussions, and now we have a framework for figuring out how we want to handle DD's specific behaviors.

I actually liked the video better than the book. At some point I want to watch it with my DH, since I know that he will watch the video but would never read the book. Around here the video is available at the library and through the local pre-school co-op - so you may be able to borrow it instead of buying it.

Could you say more about why you like the DVD better than the book? I totally get the part about how not everyone is into reading books (or is in a situation where they have the time, even if they are). Is that the main reason, or is there something else you like better about the DVD?

For example, in the case of Happiest Toddler on the Block by Harvery Karp I ilke the DVD better because some of his strategies are counter-intuitive and it's easier to "get it" imo if you can see him and other parents actually using them in IRL situations. Is there something analagous going on in the UC DVD?

You could always check the local library before buying the DVD. Our library lends DVDs and videos out, and has a particularly large collection of parenting and self-help videos. :P
