I've been attending a conference on working with the young child with special needs (birth-five) the last few days and today I chose a discussion that primarily caught my eye because the first two case-studies dealt with co-sleeping and I wanted to hear what this pediatrician had to say...he was all for it and debunked the myths surrounding it, talked about the evolutionary benefits and the history of both it and sleeping in separate bedrooms phenomenon. He was great! I was so pleased. I asked him why so many pediatricians are supportive of it on a personal level (this has been my personal experience although I know not for many of you) but the AAP is officially against it. He commented that he believes the AAP will have to rethink it's position within the next couple of years and issue a new policy statement. Score one for our side!
