OK, there's nothing new that isn't posted on JKR's own website, which is very likely the original source for the article anyway!

Saying "eventually they let me carry it on bound in rubber bands" leads me to beleive it was originally in a portable safe or a similar kind of container that could theoretically conceal weapons.
