Has anyone seen this and what is an appropriate age for DC to appreciate/tolerate/enjoy it? I loved the book as a kid, but I was probably in the third grade.

My 7-year-old and 3-year-old really enjoyed the movie. DP and I thought it was great, too. I remember reading it when I was young too.

I think I was about that age too when I read it, although I think my ds read it when he was 6 or 7. He might enjoy the story more now though - I will have to go searching through our bookshelves to get it out again.

Glad to hear it is a good movie. We are going to go check it out.

We took our 5yr old ds too see it opening week. he loved it and is still talking about it.
I thought it was really good and wish they would make more movies for kids and families like it.

Ds (6) and I saw it together and we both loved it. Last year, I had read the book aloud to him in anticipation of the movie (we try to make that literaure-film link whenever possible) so he was extra excited about it! Definitely held my attention and entertained me more than many kids' movies.

I was surprised to find out that the book is on the American Library Association's list of the 100 Most Frequently Challenged Books of 1990-2000 (a list that includes The Catcher in the Rye, Cujo, To Kill a Mockingbird, and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn) and has been a target of censors because it endorses betting and some parents found the idea of eating worms to be "disgusting" .
