Can any of you experienced seamsters give me some advice? I'd like to make my 5 yo ds some pants as he hates everything made for boys (dark colors, zippers and buttons) and since he's skinny as a rail and cold all the time I thought I'd make something that was flannel or fleece on the inside and something bright and cotton on the outside. Trouble is, with it being spring none of the pattern catalogues have anythign for lined pants. Do you think I could just make an "inside and outside" set and then sew them together right sides together at the bottom leg hem and then slide them together and put the elastic into the waist? (havent' quite thought that one all the way through) DOes that make sense? I'm just not sure that if I made two of exactly the same pant they'd fit together properly...Has anyone made pants like this? Any ideas? Thanks!

You can do this. I works best if one of the materials is slippery, then you don't have to be so picky about the fit of the two "copies." I might suggest polarfleece and nylon, but that might not be what you have to work with! Definitely test-fit the finished product on your boy before stitching the leg openings together. You might need to decrease the size of the liner, especially if you use polarfleece.
If you want an easier option, just mate the liner to the outside fabric and cut out one copy. Pins work okay, but iron-on interfacing is easier. It will be warmer if you don't fuse the two together because the pants will capture more air and be more insulating. Just treat the two layers as one layer and you will have a thicker pant.
