preschool and allergies

I found out today that my son's preschool teacher was never informed of my son's allergies and that they don't plan on asking the other parents to bring nut free snacks...Do you think I should pack my son's snacks each week and /or complain to the head of the school?

I am also wondering if I should send benedryl and an epi pen to the school.

I am feeling pretty upset that they don't seem very focused but I don't want to be panic mom...but really...she fed him today and didn't know about his allergy!

heck yeh you should be pissed! the school should not only have informed the teacher, but should at least have an epi pen on hand for him and someone that knows how to use it. You should definately talk to the school about this, your sons life could be put at risk, now's not the time to be nice and quiet and just try to deal with it from your end. Kid's that age aren't able to be totally responsable for themselves, so he can't deal with it on his own, and at school, that means it's the teacher and school's responsability. So go be a squeaky wheel.

here's conneticut's state guidelines for dealing with food allergies in schools. I know you're probably not in connecticut, but it would give you a good idea about what is considered reasonable to ask for in terms of accomadation. It's long (84 pages!) and it's a pdf file. but you could just skim through it and see what schools there require in the case of an allergic student. Hope that helps.
