Anyone using acupuncture?

I started acupuncture after two miscarriages. I am pregnant again and plan on using it throughout my pregnancy. It is giving me some hope since there are many discomforts/problems that W. Med doesn't have an answer for. I had preeclampsia with ds as well as sciatica.

Anyone else out there?

Me! I it.

I used it last pregnancy in an attempt to get labor started. $400 down the drain. I never went into labor.

daggone mightymoo, $400?! that is crazy. my acupuncturist charges waaaaay less than that. i'm sorry it didn't work for you.

I used it to start my labor with DS. After two sessions, one on a Friday, next on Monday, my water broke! I believe it was the acupuncture, for sure.

I went to a new practitioner over the summer, twice, and wish I could have kept going. $70/session. I loved the herbs she sold me, too! But it's too much $ for us right now.

I went to my acupuncturist today - he is a kind older Chinese man. He said that my pulse was really strong - which I take is a good sign.

He then warned me against lifting heavy objects, stress and also SEX!
He said that it could cause miscarriage in the first 3 months.

I don't think W. med would back this up - do you think this is just superstition?

I've read about the sex thing in a couple of books by M.D.s One said vigorous sex early on can possibly be a danger, especially for a weak implantation, but that it's a small chance. The other said the no sex thing was a myth. For now, DH and I are taking our chances from time to time

I used acupuncture for 6 weeks and then found out I was pregnant. I really credit my treatments for helping us conceive, and I am definitely sticking with it for at least several more weeks. I feel like my treatments support me both mentally and physically. My acu just uses 3 little points in my hands that can be done TTC and pregnant. I also get support for my thyroid (I'm sub-clinical hypothyroid).

Sorry to butt in, but I saw you are in Mass. I wanted to let you know that the Lane Center in Norwell offers an acupuncture clinic, $40 a session instead of $70. You meet with the practitioner in private (you might need an initial session first) then your treatment is given in the larger room, with a couple other people, who are not too close, and behind screens. It's right off Rte. 3, so if it's anywhere near you you might give them a try.

Mary, my acupuncturist didn't mention anything about sex but physically and emotionally i am completely uninterested now, so i am listening to that. i think if you feel physically and emotionally up to it, then i'd go with that.

I went for four sessions! I really wanted to have a VBAC, but it wasn't to be.

I started going for acupuncture before we got pregnant - for stress and high blood pressure (which I think was due to the pill, but that's another rant). Also, years ago I had been diagnosed with PCOS. We got pregnant, and I'm still going for as long as my practitioner says its safe. I just feel so relaxed when I'm done. I really think it will help throughout my pg.

Also, for MA people, try Boston Bodyworker. It's 40 dollars (with insurance) for 1/2 hour... I really like them - they have two locations. http://www.bostonbodyworker.com/

I've never done acupuncture but I have my first appointment tomorrow. I am going to see if I can get any help with my m/s, which is making me miserable and non-functioanal every late afternoon/evening. I am hinging my hopes on this, because with my first pg, I wanted to die from m/s. I can't crawl into a shell this time though because I have to care for ds! Anyone have success using acupuncture for m/s? (Please say yes!!)
aran, i haven't tried it but i have heard it can be very successful in alleviating m/s. good luck!

ACUPUNCTURE:

I was borderline HG when pg with ds, and this pg, m/s started earlier and had been hitting harder. Well today, I feel FABULOUS. I don't want this to wear off... I would mortgage my house again if that's what it takes to continue to get treatment that works this effectively (hopefully, it won't come to that). I don't know how long the effect will last, but I have three appointments next week. I am praying it lasts at least another day, until the weekend when dh is home and can help me care for ds again!

So I went to see my acupuncturist and she didn't think I needed to continue treatements, unless I found that I got m/s really bad...which I haven't so far. I am almost six weeks. So we'll see.
