Maybe not. I went back to work when my dd was 11 weeks old and have only used an Isis. She'll be a year old next week and I'm, still pumping and my supply is fine.

Those comments really annoy me. I had people tell me the same thing. It really isnt' true.

I pumped for a year and my supply was fine. I stopped pumping two years ago and I still have a supply.

Thanks for the continued advice and encouragement (I was starting to get worried again).

I'll give the sac/ice packs a try at work... I had been thinking of (but not liking much) pump&dump @ work but if I can keep the milk safe for DD, why dump?

Anyway, as long as my supply stays enough for the time we're together I'm *not* going to worry about the rest (easier said than done, I know).

DD's waking and fussing... gotta run.

Thanks ALL!!

Here's one more success story for you:
I went back to work full time when ds was 13 weeks. He is now 27 months, (and I am now part time, but that's sort of irrelevant) and still nursing like a fiend.
I used the Medela Pump in Style, and because I was at the time working as a resource teacher, I traveled school to school and rarely had access to a fridge or hot water. I used the cold packs to chill the milk and an electric kettle when I could to clean the pumping stuff, when I couldn't I just was sure to sterilize at home.
3 days a week ds was in daycare nearby and I nursed him during my lunch breaks. The other two days he was at home with dh and I just pumped.
It was hard for me, but my situation at home and at work at the time was very stressful. Towards the end of the school year I couldn't pump enough to keep up with ds and I had to bring him what I had pumped in the a.m. for his afternoon. Part of the problem, I later discovered was that one of the tubes on my ump was working its way loose and I wasn't getting good suction! Yikes.
But, we made it and never had to supplement (not that that's bad, but it was important to me for a number of reasons.)

I have not run into unsupportive people/comments on this subject, although I can share that I too am a success story!!

I pumped for a while at work for dd, but she outright REFUSED take a bottle so I stopped pumping after my milk supply stabilized. (Although my mom brought her to me once a day to nurse her since she would have otherwise gone without all day!!)

I am not working and pumping for ds (I work PT). We are fortunate to have a very nice, hospital grade (I'm talking industrial here-- not a PIS or Purely Yours) to use at work in a Mom's Room. I pump 3 times a day.

Neither children have ever had a drop of forumla as a result of me returning to work (well, they never had it anyway, but definitely not because I went back to work).

Good luck!

Oh, and Ione, are you actually living in Paris now? My dh is French-- from Nancy. Just curious! (Especially since I don't find the French to be very supportive. Maybe it's just my in laws.)

Yes, we live in Paris... and no, I don't think it's just your in-laws.

Anyway...

DD still won't take a bottle or soft spout sippy cup from either DH or I... perhaps the daycare lady will have better luck. I go back to work Monday so time is running short. Although the first week'll only be 4hr days. So there's still some time. But... argh! something new to worry about...

According to what I found online, breastmilk keeps 5 or 6 hours unrefridgerated.

I remembered something like that from my copy of Nursing Mother, Working Mother.

I just started doing this pumping at work routine. No problems with milk supply at all. I'm working three full days a week.

BM can keep unrefrigerated for up to 10 hours
