Let's talk prodromal

Just so curious...For those of you who had prodromal labor:

when did contractions start (time of day, etc)
when did they stop
how close together did they get
how intense were they
for how many days/weeks did they last

How did it finally shift into progressive active labor?
What do you think caused the shift?

Last night I had timeable and must-breathe-thru contractions 4-5 minute apart thru the night. They felt awesome to me, and of course now they are gone... fine with me, but made me curious about others experiences since you can't find any of this on books.

NAK stopping by from the January 06 club (yeah that's right, I'm not pregnant, but I had prodromal somethin' fierce)

DS was two weeks late by ultrasound due date. The last week, I had prodromal labor through the night every night for 5 days. I had contractions anywhere from 3-7 min apart. Went to my wonderful ob for nst and they'd stop. Couldn't sleep during the day at all. I was exhausted. Finally at 4 one night, woke up hubby and told him that I needed to go to the hospital so they'd either give me something to sleep if I wasn't ready to have ds or they'd break my water b/c I was just so exhausted. Went in, was told that they thought my water had broke, but ds's head was plugging the bag so nothing had come out. I was 3 cm. Labored, exhaustingly for about 5 hours and then just started crying because I desperately needed to sleep. I asked for nubain IV and was able to sleep in between my every two minute contractions for about 20 minutes.

By this time, I was curled up in bed in the fetal position because my body so ached for sleep. I rolled over and all of a sudden, told my doula that I needed to push. She got all bug-eyed and ran out of the room (Dr. was not in the hospital at the time, b/c at last check, I'd been 6 cm dialated and didn't seem anywhere close). I was told by the nurses to breath through the contractions and try not to push (what a PITA!!!) and then once Dr. was there, ds was out in 4 pushes. Next time, they don't get the luxury of waiting for my doctor, I'm going to push, dammit!

All in all, it was a great delivery. I totally do not regret the medication because I so desperately needed a break and it gave that. My next birth, that will definitely be an option for me if I went through the prodromal hell I did with this one.

I hope that helped a little bit. If you are having night contractions, do your best to sleep during the day, you'll really feel it when you're in real labor if you don't.

Good luck, hang in there. Soon you'll be holding your little one!! Yay!!

so no one (out of 40 people) has experienced prodromal? :

Or is it just too boring to talk about?

I feel your pain- and frustration

I have been going through this for two weeks!!! I have my 40 week appointment today and will find out if the doc is going to induce me. He is concerned with my BP and possible placental tear. This weekend we went to the hospital thinking I was in labor the contractions were about 2-3 minutes and WOW!! the doubling over pain! took me completely by surprise. The next two days I felt like I had been through two weeks of hockey pre-season in one night! Stick in there and try not to get too frustrated. I had this happen twice this weekend and once during the week - then absolutley NOTHING!! This babe is just very comfortable in there!
Good Luck to you.

I dont know if this is what I am experiencing or not. Its been progressively getting worse. Last night they were sooo painful and felt like something was tearing inside of me. Those lasted about an hour. I almost went to the ER. I think I'll call my dr today though to check in. I have my 39 week appt tomorrow.

Me!!!!!!, Oh WOMAN!!

when did contractions start (time of day, etc) after standing for a long while, vacuming, any heavier work, in the evening (about 4pm), the last few day its all day
when did they stop usually when I go to sleep
how close together did they get every 3 min
how intense were they all the way from being aware of them to strong enough that I have to stop what I'm doing
for how many days/weeks did they last 2 mild weeks followed by 2 more intense weeks with my last one, this time a few weeks of lighter stuff, about 2 weeks of more intense stuff and the last 2 weeks have been pretty heavy

How did it finally shift into progressive active labor? How??? It just did, I was ready and 8 day past EDD she came
What do you think caused the shift?who knows

The longest "session" I've had was from 4:30 am to about 10:00pm.......wow am I ever ready now!! I've been having some pretty intense ones since lunch yesterday that are feeling funky...babies in a funky position which is making for some....um...interesting sensations when he/she moves. I'm at 4cm now so all this action is getting me ready, not to mention the mental/emotional/spiritual journey it has brought me through. I feel more calm and prepared for birth now the ever before.
