nursing tops... BLECH!!!

I'm finally free from maternity, and now I can't find anything to wear that jives with nursing. Arrrgh!!!

I want to look hot, or at least cute, or at least not spherical and frumpy... but everything with accessible boobage is hideous. All the juniors fall clothes have zippers and hoods. All the misses/womens fall clothes are crispy and shaped or tweedy. All the men's button-ups i've tried on make me look like a short gunnysack. So now i've gone online to search for nursing tops, and they are either affordable and frumpy or adorable and completely out of reach. I mean, $60 for a nursing shirt that's going to be covered with spit-up, leaked milk and side-squeezed poo? Thanks a lot, Japanese Weekend!

So what can I do? I want to go out in public with my darling baby, but I unfortunately have to wear a shirt, and that shirt will at some point have to have access to our only food source.

Suggestions? Help!? Anybody feel my pain?

: I can't believe I got through the 10 months of pregnancy body issues just to come out on the other side without a derned thing to wear.

Especially because it is fall, almost winter, I just wear any regular shirt with a tank top underneath. That way you can pop out the top of your tank and still have tummy coverage from the tank and breast coverage from the shirt. If you aren't too worried about breast coverage, you can always just wear shirts that are kind of low cut and pop out the top to nurse. Once my belly looked firm again, I also just wear normal clothes and don't worry if people can see my belly. That is the best solution I have come up with. Most of the nursing clothes fit kind of strangely anyway.

Ugh! I'm totally with you. I've looked at the new styles and I feel completely lost and KNOW they won't work for nursing. I've checked out the Gap, Old Navy, Motherwear - Blech is all I have to say.

Right now, I'm wearing t-shirts a lot.

I wear a nursing tank under t-shirts-- I don't like most nursing tops either.

I've always been more interested in having style, rather than following fashion. A black nursing tank black under a white oxford is with black pants or dark jeans . . can't go wrong.

Find what is comfortable and flattering and go with it. Also, it's only been a month, give yourself a little more time. Don't go into full body-hatred mode!

Naw, naw! I like my body, and i'm amazed at how quickly it has recovered from pregnancy, labor and surgery. Just completely in awe. I guess by "body issues", I was referring to the amazing range of clothing sizes required to keep a pregnant woman looking professional at work. Outgrowing normal clothes, then larger sized clothes, then fitting into maternity, then outgroing it, then that last couple of weeks where *nothing* fits.... it was just so pricey and frustrating, and I thought it would be easier now.

It's the nursing clothes I hate!

I mean, yeah, it's hard to fit my big ol' nursing tatas into shirts that fit, but who can complain about a self-contained meal system?

Well, I ended up going to my old standby, oldnavy.com, and dropping $50 on 4 shirts and a pair of baby pants. Luckily, half-button-up henleys and kimono tops are popular now. We'll see how they work!

you know I think a couple mama mi nursing tanks under any shirt you like is the best combo EVER. I absolutely hate nursing tanks. Personally I just use any shirt I have and throw a jacket or a sweater over it if I am feeling like being modest. Otherwise I just don't worry abuot it.

I generally wear a tank top under a hooodie of some sort. That way, I can zip down the hoodie, hike up the tank top and still be covered. I did get one nursing tank that works well under other tops, but shelf bras tend to make my boobs looks funky, so it does make me a little self conscious.

I never had a shirt specifically for nursing before, they always looked odd to me.
