Hm...reading those threads about tea make me think that I should sometimes drink green tea in the morning, and maybe get some unsweetened cocoa powder to mix in...something.

I also feel really uncomfortable in gyms. Music is a good idea.

Breakfasts...

sweet potato, boiled or baked. w/ butter, salt, honey.
oatmeal, whatever type is your favorite... steel cut, flat, etc.
quinoa porridge
cream of anything
amaranth porridge
yogurt and fruit (ie bananas) for more calories
of course, scrambled eggs... country scrambled is quickest

No... but I never tried to meditate. I do get headaches when I think about studying sometimes, does that count? :

These are some good ideas! I love eggs but I'm usually too lazy to make them in the morning - I sleep as long as I can and then I'm always in a hurry to get out. Same with the oatmeal porridge - love it, but I wouldn't wake up earlier to cook it. (I know, I'm causing my own problems.)

How do you make quinoa porridge? I have quinoa at home and I do like it sometimes.

So the ipod I currently own died about a month after I got it, and I would get a new one (as if I could affored it ) but I somehow killed MY laptop a little while after so there goes all my music files. : (long story for a short answer : ) The point I guess is I have been using the lack of music as an excuse for a while, and I'm trying to force myself to go, with or without it!

Thanks for the links on tea, I haven't checked them out yet but will as soon as I'm done here. We have some green tea around the house, and I tried a sample at costco yesterday and didn't hate it, so that's why I asked about it. I think I'd like to try the raspberry tea sometime if I come acrossed some. Where would you find it?

My current best breakfast idea is yogert. but that's about ALL I can figure out in the morning.

Starting my new fitness goals on Monday! That's when school starts so I thought I'd jump in with new everything all at once.

This thread is WAY to quite... where is everyone!? You all better be working out right now!
That's about as movitaing as I get
Oh wow, you really do kill electronics! How do you do that? And if your ipod was new, does it has warranty?

I think I'll go with yoghurt too. It's easy and fast. Maybe I could start getting some with bifidus cultures or something. Or I could eat toast, but I was trying to avoid bread.

School start for me in October. I so don't feel like it. Evil school makes me face I've been in denial about. *insert sighing smiley*

Well, with quinoa porridge (and the same would go for rice) you could prepare quinoa the day before and then boil it very briefly in milk. Otherwise quinoa porridge is just quinoa prepared in whatever way strikes you as breakfasty.

If you country scramble eggs, you just crack them into the pan and scramble them there. That saves time. For me, if I'm rushing breakfast that much, I soon find that even with the quickest stuff to prepare I don't have time to eat it! But then I eat slowly.

Get more sleep! It'll become easier to wake up a tiny bit earlier.

oh wow! I've gotten behind over in the NMYpart2 tribe! I had no idea we were starting up over here in fitness/wt. management.

I really do need to try and work on fitness and better nutrition.

My goals (keep in mind I haven't been really exercising for a while ):
*walk 2 -3 miles 4 days a week
*do yoga 2 -3x a week
*drink at least 90 oz of water a day (as a pp mentioned, when I drink more water I crave food less and I feel a lot better!)
*go on walks with the dog at least twice a week (she's my sisters, so she walks her the other times).
*start taking stairs at school instead of elevator (whooo, this'll be hard cause it's a big campus and by the time I get to the stairs I'm already out of breath and tired of walking!).

I really want to get in better shape and feel better about myself. I think this is a good time to start b/c it's starting to cool off outside here (100F all summer long!!!), so now I'll actually be able to be outside without feeling sick from the heat. Anyway, I'm really glad you started this up here! I'm off to try and catch up on the NMY tribe!

It's hard for me too, but my faculty is pretty small and most of the places I have to be are on the same floor (or +/- 1). My problem is the subway stations. I sometimes run out of the house and by the time I get to the stairs I just don't want to anymore! The worst is when I go shopping at the big supermarket (1 subway stop away) and have to carry a couple heavy bags + a full backpack and climb stairs. It's such times that really make me wish I had a car.
But I must say I am glad I moved and don't have to go up and down 4 floors every day anymore - there was no elevator in the building I lived in before. I'm sure my butt isn't as happy as the rest of me about this one though

mmmm, breakfast is my favorite meal of the day! But right now I have 3 breakfasts that I rotate:

2 eggs, 2 strips of turkey bacon, and some lowfat cheese (least common)

oatmeal made with organic skim milk, almonds, flaxseed (sometimes with dried cranberries), and splenda

GoLean Kashi hot cereal (honey and cinnamon) mixed with flaxseed, with a bit of milk

I'm really digging the hot cereals right now, and the flaxseed adds fiber, flavor, and omega-3s (good for building muscle)

I had started out doing South Beach, but while I incorporate some of that, I have more whole grains than not.

I'm pretty sure my ipod is out of warranty but I don't know. The good news is DP is going to let me put some of my music on his, and use it when I go to the gym! :

MelanieMC, I wish it weren't getting any cooler here! Seattle gets grey and rains :, and we have to take the puppy out or she'll drive everyone (and herself) more insane then going out in the rain will. But I bet if I'd had a 100F summer I'd feel differently.

Everything starts tomorrow for me! I'm going shopping today so I think I'll at least pick up so yogurt. Since we have almost no breakfast foods in the house, at least not close to healthy.

My plans for tomorrow are: to walk to the, dog park (let pup play), and back. I'll ask DP about how far that is, since I'm HORRIBLE with distances.
For breakfast think I will make myself some eggs, and turkey sausage, with.... green tea!

Still haven't heard a lot of fitness updates! I need some mini-success stories to get me motivated for tomorrow!

headaches when trying to meditate come from a couple of sources: 1. breathing too hard or trying to hard to breathe "right" and 2. from squidging up your face and clamping your jaw. seriously, a lot of my students do this and i continually remind them to relax their face and 'just breathe' and 'just listen to the breath' as a sight of focus.

i do yoga daily, go for walks or hikes (4-6 miles), and go swimming a couple times a week.

i'm changing my nutritional situation around now. I'm whole-foods, ovo-lacto vegetarian. I'm currently moving toward sugar free, and my next step will be gluten free (doing that next may/june).

in order to facilitate this, i've adopted some raw food recipes for desserts and other sweets, so i have that sense without using sugar or overeating high glycemic foods.

so that's my adjustment right now.

Thank you! I think I'm squidging up my face. *frowns*

just check in as you practice your meditation--focus on your face and relaxing your jaw.

great, my poor DH has been trying to fight something off for the past few days, but is finally succumbing. Now MY glands are swelling and I'm starting to feel icky. I was planning on going to go on the eliptical today (since I didn't make it 3x last week), but I think I'm going to rest, drink some tea, have some echinacea, and make matzo ball soup instead.

Witchygrrl - sorry about that. I also rested all day today, I think I really needed it, I'm kind of feeling like a cold is starting.
BUT I did cook and eat healthy today.
Hope you and your husband get well soon!

This is off topic, but have any of you read the Vit C (sodium ascorbate) thread over in the Vax Forum? I just finished reading it... fascinating.
Well it looks like I will have to get me some more green tea! But I do also really like the RR tea. Someone asked where I got it? At Raley's in their natural foods section.

I was not good this week. I did take a couple of walks and went kayaking today, but my eating was atrocious (as always ). So tomorrow is the beginning of a new week, and hopefully I can turn things around.

I started reading that thread after reading your post, ordered two books from Amazon because of it, and am now going to be miserable at work tomorrow. 1:47???? How did that happen!

That happens to me all the time too! (Minus the ordering books from amazon, I get mine from a store.) Want to give the immunology 101 thread (sticky in Vax forum) a try? :

Oh no. There's no way I could even begin to tackle that thread tonight! Seriously, just the first two posts from MT there took me forever to read (b/c of the links) and I'm so tired now there's no way I'd make it!

I've been all over the boards tonight! I'm looking back at some old threads here in wt.management trying to find some inspiration and ideas for exercise.
