Also, we pick all of our names from the family trees (and like our ds, the child will have 5 names).

name aversions

I too, have name aversions. We are having a really hard time picking out boys names because I refuse to name our boy (if it is a boy) after any one of my ex-loves/boyfriends. This leaves out some names, like:
Elijah, Matthew, Brian, Jonathan, Eli (yes, I dated two different ones), Jason, Michael, Alex.... There are more that I can't think of right now.... sigh.
We are also trying to avoid any of the top 50 in the USA names... especially Aidan... since that is #1 right now. My Mom has also put an ixnay on Michael... I am pretending that I am taking her advice, and not that I wouldn't use that name anyway because of exes.

I also don't like odd spellings, like throwing in a Z or a Y just to make it 'different'. My friend named her baby Jazmyn... what was wrong with Jasmine? :

YES! I have a friend who just had a baby who named him Aiden. And while its beautiful, its SO POPULAR! However, I'm guilty of changing up a spelling. I named my daughter Aja instead of the spelling "Asia" LOL. I'm guilty. Luckily, I haven't ran into anyone with my sons name, Kylin.

Clara
Mara
Julianna

Boys:
Xavier
Joaquim
I love the name julianna. My grandmother(mom side) was portugese and her name was clotilde. I just love it... I just dont know if it will be a first or middle name yet. We also like Simone for a girl after my grandmother's (dads side)maiden name

We think we came up with a girls name. Gracie Lynn

We may have another middle name for a girl: Shiva.
I love names! So fun!

I love and hate the name game! DH and I can never agree and I get stuck on a name that he won't agree too and sometimes it's just heartbreaking?! It took us over a week to name Istra after she was born and it was a compromise for both of us (though I LOVE her name now).

I only have a boy name in my head right now... Emmeth Eliot... but DH probably won't agree to it so I'm not getting my hopes up. I like the symmetry though between this boy name and Istra's name. Istra is Istra Isabel, so she's I.I. and Emmeth would be E.E. and both names have the same number of syllables.

Girl: Stella (after my great grandmother -- it was supposed to be my name)

DH hated it at first but now he can't imagine any other name. He still does a "Streetcar Named Desire" interpretation every few weeks though... S-T-E-L-L-A

Boy: Massimo (after our summer vacation to Italy DH decided he LOVES this name -- but I am not sold on it yet)

Hopefully, going by the nick-name Mo won't be a "bad" thing if we have boy. Or maybe we'll just use his middle name, which will be Huey (pronounced almost like "we" in American) after DH's bro-in-law who died a few years ago.

Any thoughts about these names would be greatly appreciated, since my family and friends have "given up" on us because we are "wierd" meaning not mainstream!

Our first he had not choice I said Johnny was going to be Johnny and when we were carrying our first we agreed on a girls name and came up with a name for our second boy James. When we had our 3rd I really liked Luke but dh said no because everyone in our family knew how much I loved Star wars and they would think we named him Luke after Star wars which was not true. Anyway by the second trimester I liked Levi and dh would not agree to it so when I went to Labor and was driving us to the hospital yes I was driving (do not ask) I pulled off the freeway and said what is it going to be and dh could not make up his mind. The older boys were in the back screaming Levi and then I had a big contraction, which scared dh so he just agreed so we could get the hospital. So then 5 months later I am pregnant with number 4 and I tell dh pick 3 boys names and I will choice one of the 3 or else I get my choice of Liam. As we are driving to go have number 4 dh had not bothered to pick any names so Liam it was. Now dh loves the boys names and cannot imagine them named anything different. Oh by the way after Liam was born Star Wars had come out and everyone asked me if I named him after Liam Neson. :
We have started early with trying to name this baby. As I said before the girls name has been picked out now for almost 17 years and we are sticking with it but dh and I cannot agree on a boys name at all. Of course he says nah to everything. I really like Anakin but of course dh is back on the Star Wars thing yet again. I also like Avery, Levon and Rhyss which dh says NO and some other words. So I have been threaten him with Smooley, telling him Smooley has a nice ring for it. Go outside and call Smooley in see what I mean and when you are upset with Smooley, say Smooley Smooley Smooley. It really goes.

Your post made me laugh to the point of tears!!!
Thanks!

We're still working on names... DH and I have such a hard time agreeing on anything. I have a weird requirement that the first name must have 5 letters and 2 syllables (because the rest of us do), but I suppose I could break that rule if I came across a name I really loved. Also, we know the baby will have 2 middle names, which will come from family names (a tradition on my side).

If I had it my way, I'd choose Coral for a girl and Cedar for a boy, but DH says 'absolutely not'.

I know my husband and I already had a girls name before we knew! For a girl, we love Moira Rose and for a boy we like Julian. We would like a M name for a boy's middle name so he could have his daddy's initials.

I was listening to a Bob Dylan song the other day and got kind of hooked on the name Sayra for a girl - like Sara, but SAY-ra. But Jason scoffed when I told him.

I think it is much harder to name girls than boys.

Sayra is pretty Very feminine.

I think boy names are so much harder!
