In the end, the ex and I came to an amicable solution. We re-do the financial settlement from our divorce, to include CS of 15% of his wages as they are now, increased at 5% every year (120, as opposed to the 200 that the CSA are calculating) and he's responsible for providing 3500 of the college fund (a quarter of the difference, calculated over 14 years that he's not been living with them.) Their family gets about another 700 in tax credits, so I don't feel like I'm bankrupting them.
