Ok...so Emergen-C, good or bad? - Page 2

Use the "lite" and it has no sugar.

and no splenda, either. That is the kind I use. It isn't sweet tasting, which I prefer. Except for chocolate, I don't much like sugar.

Bestbirths, are you supposed to avoid dietary sources of ALA as well? Meats, spinach, potatoes? To put it in perspective, an ALA supplement would be 50+ mg.

I had been wondering myself. I've accidently given myself the runs during a cold- I think I took too much emergenc at one time. I had taken two packets over the course of a few hours. Anyway, after learning that lesson, I try to spilt up the packets and/or space them out a bit.

Is 1 mg per packet, of ALA a significant amount?

Gee, I see they even have a coffee flavoured one

I heard the "lite" version was being discontinued. I LOVE the tangerine w/glucosamine and we're just now trying the "Immune booster." On stressful days, I'll split a packet btw the kids to boost their regular diet and morning vit. C.

You know...it's way cheaper through the Frontier Co-op. Usually, one flavor at least is on sale for under $8.00 each month.

Wow! I never realized they had so many varieties now! :
When I last was using it they had, well, just one flavor!
I'm gonna have to stock up now...

I'm going to buy some to have on hand for me, dh and ds. I have hylands vit c tablets on hand right now for ds, but nothing but crappy chewables for me and dh. I'm also going to look into getting some SA, but until then I'll just pick up some emergen-c, they do say for 15 and over.....but they also say for 2yrs and older on the hylands.....its just one of those safety reccomendations to cover their butts.

I like Emergen-C because it's the only way I can get my DH to take any kind of vitamin or mineral. OY! DS doesn't need supplements yet. He's 10 months and still bf'ed day and night.

dd can have no red meat, and no potatoes, but she could have spinach, except she doesn't like green leafies. I'll have to check on that. I've never thought about the dietary ALA.

I guess it would depend on the weight of the child. 1/4 a mg. of ALA per lb is the dose used to pull mercury from the brain. I know it is a very small amount, but I don't want to chance it....It might pull tiny amounts of mercury from the brain and displace it into the body.

On round of chelation, when dosing ALA anyway, is when I plan on using the remaining emergen-c in our cupboard.

We always have a box of Emergen-C in our house as well. Both me and dh and the kids drink it most days.

In fact dh went off to walmart to buy some (yep evil walmart). It's the only place where we can get it for $6 a box.

I bought some tangarine because of this thread, DH hates the acidic/tart/sour flavor of it! He calls it nasty, tries to beg out of not having to take it, etc. I don't mind it that bad. Is the Raspberry flavor as tart? He's drinking it because he said he would, but I'd rather not have to force it down him!
They only had Raspberry and Tangarine at our WalMart.

We sometimes give it to laboring mommas as an energy boost. :-)

I'm 39 weeks preg and have taken it numerous times throughout my pregnancy when I felt like I was getting sick and then didn't get sick! :

You can order it online at drugstore.com along with some other natural type stuff. (I get my Dr. Bronner's soap there, organic shampoo, etc.)

My mom's ND recommended she take it because she was drinking a lot of water but was retaining it and still had symptoms of dehydration.

It's so expensive!! Well, when you're broke it is

But I have to pick some up...dd cannot shake this cold and I know it would help her...

Hmmmm I LOVE it but I guess I'd say just make sure you dilute it well; ie. use a huge glass of water. When I put it in my water bottle for biking, I can barely taste the flavor at all.

I looked for it today at the store since Zayla can't shake this terrible wet sounding cough. It was way more than I could afford. Bummer too since I have such a hard time getting her to drink the regular asorbic acid. Sounds like a handy product to have around.

I really like http://www.ultimareplenisher.com/ It is sweetened with Stevia and has no synthetic ingredients.

Funny, I go in for the 4oz glass and swig it down quick method. Personally, I don't think it's bad, I think it tastes a lot like chewable vit. C which I've taken for most of my childhood life. Course I can drink almost anything
I gave him your suggestion, maybe we'll try it tomorrow. We'd hate to have to get up to pee 15x tonight!
