He's Here!

Birth story and pictures::

I started noticing I was having contractions Monday (18th) morning. They were irregular at first, but then began noticing a pattern. They were about 15 minutes apart, to 12 minutes, to 8 minutes and then to 5 minutes. Around 8:30pm they were getting more painful so I decided to go to the ER. We got there and I found out I was 1cm and 80% effaced. The maternity triage nurse was horrible to me because I didn't have a shitload of prenatal care. She kept leaving me alone in the triage when I was in some pretty bad pain. She checked me again about 3 hours later and I was then 3cm and still 80% effaced. I finally was able to get a room at that point. I was checked again at around 7:00am and I was 4cm dialated, 80% effaced and -2 station. At around 4:00pm on Tuedsday (19th) I decided to get some Stadol so I could sleep. Then at around 6:00pm, I was checked and still at 4cm. My doctor ended up deciding to break my water and see how I would progress then. She broke my water and immediately my contractions were no more then 2 minutes apart and very strong. Around 8:00pm she talked to me and told me that she'd like to give me pitocin just to help me out. At this point I agreed but told her I wanted an epidural. I was upset that I was not going to be able to follow my birth plan, but I knew that this was for the best. I got my epidural and was quickly relieved of the contractions. Then she gave me the pitocin. At around 10pm I started feeling pressure like I had to poop. I told the nurse so and she checked me. I was almost 10cm. I just had a slight lip left. The pressure got worse and I started screaming that I needed to push and that I didn't care if they let me or not. The nurse checked me and I was 10cm. I remember John telling me that Levi had dark hair and lots of it. That's the thought that kept me going. The pressure was horrible. I ended up pushing for 1 hour 15 minutes. Towards the end, his heart rate began to drop. She ended up using the vacuum on him to get him out. I remember the second his head came out and how wonderful it felt. Then a smaller push and the rest of him was out. We were shocked at how much he weighed because when the OBGYN was came to see me, she felt my belly and said that she thought Levi would be about 7lbs. HA!

Levi Robert Lewis Robinson was born at 11:29pm on September 19, 2006. He weight 9lbs 5ozs. He was 21 inches long and his head was 37cm.

I tore in three places. The sides of my labia, inside my vagina and down to my rectum-luckily! he just tore right up to it and not through it. I'm not sure how many stiches, but it sure was a lot. She even did perineum massages and we paused as much as we could throughout pushing. (I was very lucky and got an OB that is very much like a midwife.)

Levi had a few problems breathing at first. The NICU came to see him but determined he would be okay. He had a lot of mucous in his throat and nose so he had a hard time feeding for awhile. He ended up throwing most of it up yesterday, so he is feeding MUCH better today. In just 4 hours he drank about 2 1/2 ounces! He loves to burp on his own and he makes little snorting noises. He has a very strong neck too. The little man is very well...endowed down below! He favors his right hand, loves to be belly to belly with you and loves scrunching his left leg up and leave his right leg dangling. He sleeps wonderfully. He sleeps through both of the dogs barking too.
