Yes, this is what I'd like to know too. Frankly I think mdc has every intention to go ahead with the google ads, no matter what all you very passionate caring mama's do to raise funds. If the google continues, which I think it will, I'd rather see the raised funds go to mama's in need or something along those lines. Maybe give back to mamas in need that use this site. Those mama's won't be able to afford the subscriptions to have no annoying ads...

Btw, I second the option to pay with something other than paypal!

Not to my knowledge, but I think it's helpful to give ideas rather than just knock them down. That way, if MDC sees there are other options where they can get the $$ they're hoping for, maybe they can look into something not so Googley.

I wasn't knocking anything down, just trying to focus on reality. I ddddc whenever I have money in my paypal, I do the HH and I wanted to buy the cookbook...

Yes, it would be interesting to know how much MDC needs to run the boards and if Google is really going to make that that. (I'm doubting it, but what do I know, I said the WAHM advertisers would drop to nearly zilch when the rates went up as well) I think you'll find alot of people willing to help with things if they knew what the goal was. And alot of people skeptical because all they see is MDC "needing" $$$.

First the WAHMs were not able to advertise as easily (banners costs) and now bringing in Google. I hope this isn't the begining of a trend.

The members here want to be supportive, but MDC has to be supportive of its members as well. :

I wasn't referring to you actually.

I believe Powells has a special trade agreement with Mothering.

I might suggest that MDC make the "ad-free subscription" option much more accessible, so more people know about it. It's so much nicer when you know there's a choice.
There will be a subscription that will offer that as well as a link to click to get a no ads view of the forum.

Here.

I don't have a problem with the Google ads. The fact remains that Mothering needs to cover their expenses on a consistent basis. Pulling together as a community to try and find alternative means of doing so is commendable. But at the end of the day will those alternative means bring enough money to consistently provide income? We have Granola Ambassadors, thousands of members, and TBTB to maintain the integrity of this board and report inappropriate ads as needed. I am so very thankful for this board and will stand behind most anything that needs to be done to ensure when I log on tommorrow, that it will still be here.

Thanks, dallaschildren for saying that. Many times, it's really easy to get caught up in the negativity...I appreciate the reminder to practice gratitude, even when we may disagree.
