I would think that the cost of the admin and the admin assistant need to come out of that $60K as well, as well as some of Cynthia's new position's costs, as well as any tech assistance, as well as the cost of the site...but STILL, there are ads and look at how many DDDDCs have been floating around lately....

I am dumb. Care to elaborate? I have never heard of spyware and virus being in google ads.

If we have some type of spyware catcher on our puter would that help?

I'm so broke that I've eaten nothing but tap ramen for the last week so I could buy good food for my dd. But I would still find a way to pay $3, $5, or even $10 to not have google here (in my safe place).

$3 may not be an issue for most financially but I have to wonder how many mama's dont use electronic methods to pay for things (no cc, pp etc....)

Spyware catchers that are proactive (perhaps "preventative" would be a better word) are pretty expensive and since I've never purchased one, I have no idea whether they work. Using Ad-Aware by Lavasoft, and cleaning up my computer every day, I can see which sites give ad-ware/spyware pretty easily and definitely, google ads add stuff to your computer. It's freaky.

Different prices for different subscriptions. 3 more bucks for a no adds subscription but since i like the current adds i didn't pay for it

Maybe if certain forums are off limits except with paid membership, kind of like you can't access TAO or TP before X amount of posts like it is now??
Well what we could do then is offer a free 2 week trial and then you don't have access and have to pay to increase new membership. My dh runs an investment advice site and that's what he does.

If you click on User CP and scoll to the bottom on the right hand side is a link that says "Paid Subsriptions" with all the prices
post #29 of 188
and for those asking. to get a PAID for subscription goto the User CP and at the bottom there is a Paid for Subscriptions link. many different options in there to choose.

Pay with Debit or Paypal i think.

I would have absolutely no problem paying a small amount for a yearly membership here. In order not to have to see google ads.

I've stopped reading some of my favorite blogs because of the ads...

Maybe we could have scholarship programs for those people.
I also had no idea that there were paid subscriptions. Maybe if that was a better known fact, more people would have bought one (I know I plan to now).

I could deal with that. Just as long as there is an option for those folks that paying just simply is not.

And think about it, there are far less WAHM banner advertisers now. Most of us simply can't afford to advertise at MDC anymore. So they have to make us for that somewhere. Just peek into the WAHMwell and do a serach for cost of advertising.

Yes, I've been around four years and I had never heard of that option.
I don't see a problem with it at all.

Would that be the googlesyndication? I have that crud blocked through adblock (for mozilla) I see NOTHING at diaperswappers. (Are there even ads there?)

Paid memberships exclude people like myself. Due to no fault of my own my paypal account has been frozen. Pay pal refuses to take any steps to resolve the situation, even though it happened due to a crime that was committed against me (that's right, paypal will punish the VICTIM of a crime, even though the FBI and the local PD cleared my family of any illegal activity, paypal apparently knows better!!! And the criminals never had access in any way to the paypal account).

Numerous phone calls and emails to pay pal have had no result. I can't even CLOSE my account. Thank God there isn't a significant amount of money in there.

So, even if I want to buy an MDC membership, there's no way I CAN do so.

but I am sure if the site itself required a paid membership, there would be ways to pay other than paypal...like cc or a check/money order
