isaac is here. 7 pounds, 13 oz, 20 in. 10 hours labor, 30 mins pushing.
i woke up to contrx at 3am on sept 17. they were only 30 mins long and not painful but i thought i would eat a snack just in case. they kept waking me up anyway. after an hr i realized they were 5 mins apart so i woke up dh and did some last minute things. we went for a walk and they picked up. sometimes they would get closer together but they went back to five minutes apart. then they were one minute long and i needed to hum through them. so we decided to go to the hospital because it was really far away.
when i got there i was 6 cm dialated. i met my doula there. right away got my antibiotics (gbs) and 20 minutes on the monitor. they let me up as soon as they had a 20 minute strip and i could do whatever i want. my nurse was awesome. i got in the shower, tub, birth ball, toilet, etc. it is like as soon as i felt settled at the hospital labor picked up. they were only 3 mins apart still but very intense and i was really vocalizing. in between contrax i was telling jokes and having a good time. then i started to feel transition. i kept saying he is coming soon, this has to be over soon, this is going to be hard. i never asked for drugs but thought i don't know how much longer i can do this. my doula and dh were great. they made me as comfortable as possible.
my midwife was not available so i had to get an oncall ob, but she was aweseome. she followed my birth plan to the letter! i think she memorized it. i had 3 contrax where i felt a little pushing and i was grunting a bit. then i got in the bed in this weird position...kinda sitting with the bed all the way sitting up but cocked to the side. the nurse checked me and RAN for the doctor. she asked me if i was comfortable in that position and i said yes even though this was not what i had pictured but couldnt fathom moving.
oh yeah, so my bag of water was still intact! which is great b/c i had group b strep. so i pushed a few grunty pushes then finally got down to business. i remember looking at the clock and saying he will be out by one pm. i felt the ring of fire...WOW. but i just accepted it b/c i was ready to be done. the dr was so great. she just kept encouraging me with every push. my doula and dh held my hands. once he was born i felt tons of relief! i asked her not to give me pitocin or cut the cord and she was fine with that.
i felt so great. i was able to latch him on all by myself. then he nursed for a whole hour! they did his newborn procedures after that in my room with dh helping while i went to the bathroom. i couldn't believe i could already walk there by myself. it wasn't long afterwards that i took a bath while dh took him to do his hearing test. after 8 hours we were out the door. we did have to sign out AMA b/c of the group b strep thing, but it felt so great to go home. he is such a cutie pie! the birth was easy and uneventful, but not boring. we did have fun joking around until the end.
