How many hours a day is your babe sleeping?

The other sleep thread got me wondering how much other babies are sleeping each day.

DD#1 seemed to rarely sleep. I don't remember how much she did, but it was hardly any. For most of her life, until the past few months, she always slept less than the "recommended" amount.

I must say, I've been deeply blessed with DD#2. She probably sleeps, on average, about 18-19 hours a day. It's insane! For instance, she slept from about 10pm-9:15am last night (woke up a few times to nurse and went right back to sleep) then was up until about 11:30am and slept until about 5:00pm (again, woke up twice to nurse and right back to sleep). She was awake until 7:00pm and now is asleep again. I expect she'll be up for a short period of time again before we go to bed for the night.

I don't know what I would do if she wasn't a good sleeper. If she was anything like DD#1 I'd be :

Not enough!
Sean sleeps 11-12 hours a night, half-waking up 3-4 times to nurse. It's daytime we are having problems. If we go out, he gets more sleep since he sleeps well in the car or the sling. I can't really wear him at home because he is only happy if I keep moving and I can't move much in my 750 sq.ft. apartment. He cat naps if we are home, a half hour here, 45 min there. Every time he falls asleep I run around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to clean up.:

This one sleeps WAAAY more than my others. At least 10 hours at night, and throughout the day. So probably 16-20 hours total. It's seems downright odd compared to my last two!

Luna sleeps around 18-21 hours a day. The girl just loves to sleep!!

Her naps are anywhere from an hour to 4 hours long and at night she usually sleeps from around 8-1, wakes to nurse for 15 minutes or so then goes back to sleep until 5 or 6. I nurse her in the morning and she'll usually go back to sleep for at least an hour, sometimes 3.

Well, my dd is definitely not a big sleeper. Awake and alert most of the day, I can get her to doze off for 30 min naps a few times a day (2-3 hours total max), usually in the sling or after bouncing on the fitness ball, but it doesn't last when I stop moving.
She'll sleep a total of 8-10 hours a night, broken up by 1 or 2 feedings.

I would guess Booker sleeps 16-20 hours a day. He usually has 3 really alert periods during 24 hours, one in the morning, one in afternoon and one early evening. Last night he slept 10 hours, in 2 5 hour stretches. I thought I had died and gone to heaven!

i am SOOOO jealous of some of you!!!
Aria sleeps from about 8pm-3am with about 2-3 wakeups for feedings. Then she lightly sleeps/fidgets til about 6 when she is up for the day. She will take about 2 cat naps throughout the day about 25-45 min long...unless we are in the car and then she sleeps more. And during the day naps she NEVER lets us put her down.:

I have a theory that first children are the ones who really test us, and second children (or more?) are the easier ones. So far, that seems to be the case-- of course, there are always exceptions, but I am delighted to see how many second time mamas are getting a break.

I have noticed this trend IRL, as well. Very few mamas I have talked to have had second children be more work than their first.

Amen to that! I am the classic second/ middle child, easy going to a fault. Made up for my sister, the hellion.

Oh, let's certainly hope so.

Will, my firstborn, sleeps from 8:30 pm to 7 am, with 2 brief wake-ups to nurse. Then, he's up from 7 to about 10, naps from 10-12, then up for an hour, naps from 1-5 (wakes at 3 to nurse), and usually takes a 30 min catnap sometime between 5 and 8:30. So, he is sleeping 17 hours a day.

I feel very lucky.

My best friend & my mom's 2nd were much harder than their firsts.

my little one only has about 2 hours of awake periods. Usually one in the morning and one and night. She mainly sleeps and nurses. Thats really about it! Sometimes she'll stay awake for our walks around the neighborhood. I think she enjoys taking it all in. I hope that she doesnt sleep too much!!!! Is that possible?!?! DH and I are both sleepers! Maybe thats why she loves it sooo much. My mom told me that she and I spent the entire first year in bed. Aparently I was a baby that enjoyed sleeping!

I am pretty sure DD sleeps 20-22 hours per day right now (she's 3 weeks old). She's starting to have longer awake periods now where she "plays" (waves her arms and kicks and gives us the "blue steel" look ).

My DD (1-month) started off a great sleeper ("honey, I don't think she's supposed to sleep 21-hours per day!"), but now I can't hardly get her to sleep more than 20-minutes at a time during the day.....nights have still been restful till the last two...started waking up every couple of hours to nurse/doze at the boob.

I think that maybe it is easier because you know what to expect/do. I learned a lot of tricks with dd, that made it easier with ds. I just don't have that first mom anxiety about "am I doing this right?" with Booker. In fact I am much more stressed about how dd is coping with a new baby than I am about the new baby himself. I also notice that babies are intuitive to the feelings of mom - If I am anxious, it makes them nutty too:
