I'm really more of a lurker here... but just wanted to share the good news:
Theodore Jacob arrived on September 21 at 9:53 pm, weighing 7 lbs 15 oz and measuring 21 5/8 inches, at 40 w + 5.
Contractions started around 5:30pm, frequent, but lasting only 20 seconds or so, so I thought it might be a while yet. We had dinner, finished some household chores, and set about trying to get DS settled into bed. When I realized the contractions were coming so fast and strong (even though still brief) that I couldn't continue singing bedtime songs, I called the babysitter to come right away and the midwive's unit to tell them I was coming. The 12 minute car ride was like Mr. Toad's wild ride, with me in the back seat trying to manage what seemed like non-stop contractions (We were parked facing the opposite direction of our usual departure from our house, and DH took two wrong turns!) Our parking ticket said 9:27... Theo was born less than a half hour after we got there, with less than 10 minutes of pushing!
After wondering when, if ever, this baby would make an appearance (DS was born at 39 weeks), I am just so thrilled he is here!
