Baby problems...??

Well my midwife came over yesterday for her weekly visit (Plus I was due yesterday) and measured baby and she hasn't grown still (AGAIN) she's now 4 weeks behind.... And my midwifes now not 100% sure she's head down.... She's 99% sure... But not 100%... So I have to go for a scan tomorrow (But thats more to make sure baby's OK than to check her head position) and I've now noticed from about Sunday night she isn't moving as much, I didn't think anything of it until last night when I realised she hadn't been moving nearly as much as she normally does... And she's been fairly inactive today... I feel little movements but thats it... So now I'm slightly worried... I know they're meant to decrease with movement as they get bigger and run out of room but I didn't think it was meant to be so suddenly... I thought it would taper down or something. I've been getting minor pain (Nothing like contraction pain) so I'm not so sure what thats about... Like it's not bad so I'm not too worried... I think I'm just overly nervous about it all now.... But anyway... If you could all send healthy healing vibes to baby tomorrow that would be great... I'm thinking with my luck me and baby need all the help we can get..!

Well, for what it's worth, I am still measuring 34-35 weeks and I am 41 +, I had an ultrasound last week and they were all just aghast-baby is on the big side of average despite the small measurement I have. I am a small person though, and tend to stop measuring bigger after 34/35 weeks due to simple area restraints I guess.
They do slow down considerably toward the end-at least in my past experience they have-this lil bugger is still rolling around more than I would expect considering the lack of room in there.......

It is possible that baby IS growing, but she is also dropping so your fundus is not any higher. I was at 37 from 35-39 weeks & my midwife never said anything about it until I mention I was worried about it. Then she told me it was fine & baby is dropping. Also I have some days where baby moves very little & others where I start to worry he is going to flip over his movements are so crazy. The things you are saying could be very normal. It is so hard not to worry about it all when you can't see your baby. That is one of the big things driving me crazy now. I want to be able to see him & see that he is alright.

Either way I am sending healthy, head down baby vibes your way!!! Please let us know what happens after your ultra sound.

I'm measuring 35 at 40 wks, baby went down 1 cm from last week because he/she dropped. I wouldn't worry to much at this point!

My last babe my midwife couldn't tell if she was head down until the week I had her. I was prepared for breech but I just *felt* she was head down. Where are you feeling hiccups??

it seemed like dd stopped moving around all of the sudden too. in reality it was prolley over about 5-7 days but it was fairly quickly that seemed to be to big for the space.

i have also seen ALOT of people here that say that the fundal measurments aren't very accurate after a certain point and certainly not at the end of the pgncy. i didn't even pay attention to my measurments in the last few weeks as dd was up, down, up, down and it was always changing i am sure.

its good that you are getting a quick scan to set your mind at ease. non invasive and you don't need to stress!!

The thing that worries me about her size is that she dropped and engaged (Well according to my midwife she did) round 35 weeks, although now she's not totally sure she's head down so who knows.... I feel her hiccups low down so I'm fairly sure she is head down... I'm so pleased the scan is tomorrow, the lack of movement is really starting to worry me, I can feel faint movements and she stuck her foot onto the edge of my stomac about half an hour ago so I know she's still alive... I have a mild pain as well kinda all through my stomac which isn't helping much for the nerves, it's not unbearable but I'm sure it's not normal... I think I'm just expecting the worst with everything thats been going on... I would hate for something to happen to her now. Bring on tomorrow. Thanks for your replies Once again, they mean a lot.

The same thing happened with my third baby. I went in for scan bc of a lack of fetal movements and it turned out that the cord was around her neck. It is still not necessarily a danger since this happens in 1 out of 5 babies, but it can cause them to slow down a bit. Also, you mentioned that your baby has hiccups and that is one of the signs of a cord around the neck as well though it's not completely understood as to why. Just to make you feel more at ease, three out of four of my babies has been born with a cord around the neck and they are all fine and healthy. But, I agree that a scan is worth it to help you feel better --- I'll bet the results will show your baby is growing just fine.

I know it is so hard, but try to stay positive. Once of the things making me crazy right now is that I can't see my baby to tell if he is ok all the time. After DS was born I remember checking to make sure he was still breathing 20+ times a day. Somebody needs to find a way to be able to check that from home in the womb I just resort to begging him to kick me & usually he does...well eventually Stay strong mama!!!

I often wonder if he hasn't kicked me in the guts-so I poke him (not hard though) in the hiney and he will kick me I just have to check on occasion......

Well I'm pleased to say I had my scan today and she is perfectly fine. Apparantly I'm just small. She's perfectly healthy, approximatly 6 pounds something which is small but not too small (The New Zealand average baby is 8 pounds something) they checked the placenta flow and it was all OK, as well as her heartbeat per minate which was 120 (Which is apparanty totally normal) and all that other stuff. So I'm soooo releived she's alright. And now she's started moving round heaps again, AFTER I find out she's really OK! And it was so cool on the scan I could see all the 4 chambers in her little heart beating away... It was fantastic

Thanks guys I'm just SO releived she's OK. She moves round a bit more now too which is fantastic. I told her she isn't aloud to worry me like that again... Haha although with her whole life ahead of me to worry about her I don't fancy my chances much

Update

All WAS well, or so I thought. Until my midwife rang up today saying she wants me to go into hospital sometime today so they can monitor how babys doing... And then talk about scheduling an induction for the week coming up sometime (?!?!?!) I'm slightly shocked cos I thought baby was fine... I mean she's 6llbs something, almost 7 the scan lady said so I didn't worry too much.... Is it possible something else may be wrong and they don't want to tell me yet?? I mean I only had my scan 3 days ago... If they want to "monitor" her again already only 3 days later thats a bad sign right? And I'm really not keen on the whole induction idea at all... If she needs to come out then fair enough but my midwife said it was just cos she was "small"... Is that a good enough reason? Like I said I didn't even think she was that small, BUT as well I'm small, so she wasn't likley to be massive anyway.... So I don't know... I'm just confused, but yeah my main concern is that there may be something they aren't telling me... But can they do that? Not tell you stuff I mean?

hi mama, my M|W just sent me for US i'm due Sept 23.... but she told me these "post date ultrasounds checking fluid and cord efficiency" are only good for 3-5 days so i am not surprised your MW at wanting to 'repeat' tests 3 days later... or 4 or 5... so i dont' think THAT is alarming at all...

-if you ask your MW upfront if she is NOT telling you something she should tell you... in canada i doubt they'd do that though b/c afterall it's all about "informed consent" right? and you can't consent if they dont' inform you first.

-you can simply ask MW what your other options are.
-does she have to pass you onto a OB if you go over a certain # of days?
-is your MW going out of town next weekend or something? try to find out if this is 100% about your baby or are there other factors influencing her

the more you find out the better you'll feel.

keep us posted...

Well I'm getting induced on Monday : I wasn't going to but as she's not growing and her stomac isn't (Which is the main concern cos it means she isn't taking in food) I figured she was most likely better out than in. So as much as I didn't want to have an induction, with any luck she will be in my arms safely and happily sometime on Monday the 2nd
