My recipe

Here's my recipe for bath crayons. (We give them out as birthday presents to my daughter's friends, and everyone seems to love them.)

1 c Soap flakes (you can grate bar soap - like Dr. Bronner's baby soap - to make flakes)

Food colouring

2 tb Hot water

Put soap flakes in a large bowl and add hot water, stirring constantly. (The mixture will be extremely thick and hard to stir.)

Separate soap mixture into smaller bowls and add food colouring by drops until the soap reaches desired tint and has the consistancy of thick paste.

Press soap mixture by spoonfuls into ice cube trays and set in a dry place to harden. (5 to 10 days.)

When dry, remove from the molds and allow to dry for a few more days before using.

Yield: about 20 Crayons

Thank you Thank you!
I knew it couldn't be hard.

And I plan to give them as gifts too!

Thanks again!

I bet you could even use those water bottle ice cube trays instead of the cube ones. They would be much more crayon shaped that way.

This idea isn't for crayons but a fun bath foam. Pampered chef sell a foam soap dispenser. When you make the soap up add a few drops of coloring in and you get that color of foam. I tried making in one of the store bought hand soap pumpers and it did work, but the dispenser for PC worked better, a thicker foam. Thanks for all the idea's on making bath crayons, now if only I could get them inside to bathe.

I want to make these but I am a little nervous about the food coloring. We have a family with sensitive skin and I just don't know what would happen if my child took a bath with soap colored with food coloring. Does anyone know any natural way to dye the soap?

Thanks!

whole foods and similare stores sell organic food colorants.

and if you really wanted too, the 2T of hot water could be boiled down(concentrated) food juices, like grape juice, blueberry juice, onion skin liquid. (as in take 1 cup or more of the food juice and boil/simmer until it is 2T, thereby concentrated in color) I haven't tried this, but it's worth a shot.

Does anyone know if these crayons will stain the tub or walls? I live in a rental and don't want to goof anything up.

mine did not. I used a natural food coloring made of turmeric and grated dove soap - did not turn out so good though...

Doesn't the food colouring in the soap crayons stain hands when you use them?
