Recycled 4 magazines - so I'm up to 18.

You know, I could probably reach 500 in no time if I just did it and stopped *thinking* so hard about everything I am getting rid of. Who to give it to, do I try to sell it?, will I regret giving it away? etc. etc. Anyone else just think so much that it impedes your progress?

I am going really slowly. I have items that are sitting and waiting for pickup on Freecycle but I don't want to count them until they are really gone. I gave away two books to a friend which were brand new and I have taken soil, pots, and 3 packages of seeds to school since we are studying plants this year.

Total: 13- Boy do I have a long way to go

i am so in on this... thank you for posting this thread! i cant wait to start tallying up my 500 items i really need to declutter in a big way. i think we'll have a garage sale and save all that money back for our christmas fund... and only spend it on items that are neccessary to finish up gifts we are hand making and donate to good causes.

I haven't checked in for awhile, but I am over a hundred items. I seem to hang onto bottles of vitamins and herbs forever. I realized that I will never use them since they are expired and they all went in the trash the other day. Go me! Plus I put up for sale on ebay most of maternity stuff since I've outgrown a lot of it. It hasn't sold yet but if it does then that is another 30 items.

And I threw out 2 nasty frozen meals out of the freezer that I don't think even the dogs had any intention of eating.

so far:

6 scrapbooking items (2 spools of ribbon, 3 idea books, and a huge stack of papers)

33 magazines

2 packs of specialty printing paper (photo paper and iron ons)

1 book

1 journal (blank)

1 old outdated planner

1 zippered pocket we never have used

1 partly used nobook (used pages removed)

Yesterday I tackled part of the bathroom. I managed 41 things in there!! And I'm not done with it yet either!

I also went through our cd jewel cases and got rid of 18 of them. We use cd storage books and so the cases were really just taking up much needed space on our bookshelf.

Total for yesterday: 59

Pick one room. (I'd suggest the smallest room you have)

Work ONLY in that room for the day or until you finish it. That's how I managed to get my kitchen done. My doula came over and told me that you only go one room at a time otherwise you'll get too overwhelmed. Today I'm going to finish the bathroom, as yesterday I did not complete it. I did loose the pick one room theory today and now have a mess in the bedroom (I was getting overwhelmed too) but I stopped, took a break and ate lunch, and decided to leave the mess and finish the bathroom today. I will not think or dwell on the bedroom until I'm completely finished with the bathroom.

Hope that helps.

Or just pick one box at a time to sort through, or one cupboard. I have everything divided into little categories in my head -- I'll donate general topic books to the public library, professional topic books to the university, canned & boxed foods to the soup kitchen, foods in glass bottles to various friends depending on their tastes, open box of stale crackers to the chipmunks, etc. I only do one category per day.

Didn't get anything out of the house this week but I did list a bunch of stuff on Ebay, sent emails to other momma friends offering baby gear, and compiled a list for freecycle (have to wait for the email offers to come back before I post the freecycle). I'm counting over 100 items out next week as a result of going through stuff this week! Can't wait to add them to my tally!

1 sink thing that DH contemplated keeping but gave in and tossed it yeah!!!
