Work ONLY in that room for the day or until you finish it. That's how I managed to get my kitchen done.
:

I started one room at a time, 1 drawer or cubbard at a time. I take everything out (or almost everything) clean the space and then put it back and discard everything that I no longer want or need.
I also make myself as comfortable as I can while I do it so that I don't tired too quickly...
My house is feeling so much different already... the more I get rid of and declutter the more I find the things I need, have place forthe things that didn't have a place before etc... it also makes it so that it is so much easier to keep clean!

if I can do it... you can too!!!

Thanks, mamas. I think I just needed to know that I can really do this. I like the idea of just doing one room/space at a time. I'm a kind of "If you give a mom a muffin" gal, you know? I'll be working on the bathroom, then remember an item in the kitchen which jogs my memory to th box in dd's room which I first have to walk by ds's room and then I stop to change his sheets, etc.

So, thank you for you kind words and advoce, It really helped.

I say yes. You had to deal with each piece seperately. (Not like you'd want to use the entire shirt for your bum, right? )

I am still totally behind here. But my parents are visiting and want to help us clear out some clutter and they drove out in a large truck so we can go to the dump! : I'll be checking back in later.

I'm in!

This week I gave away:
18 pieces maternity clothes
150 items baby clothes, blankets, etc. (approximate, I didn't count, but it was two large bags with boy clothes from newborn to 2T & girls clothes from newborn to 12mo)
16 baby items (including stroller and exersaucer)
18 pairs children's shoes
30 diapers & covers
34 items - women's clothes
94 items - children's clothes
10 toys
15 stuffed animals
5 other items

I have three pieces of clothing with bids on ebay, 10 other pieces (in 2 lots) do not have bids) - if they do not sell I will give them away also.

My total so far:
403 items

I think I will make the October 500 item declutter challenge. Of course, it is not every month that I finally come to the conclusion that we aren't going to make any more children and give away all my maternity and baby things. sob, sob, sob.

Well, I've lost my motivation for the apartment. ... Mainly because the only room left is the livingroom/dining room area and well... yeah.

So today I've decided to tackle the garage. Then, if I accomplish that... I know I'll be able to accomplish the living room!

I went through my bookcase and filled three boxes full of books yesterday. I'd estimate about 200 books. I'm taking them to the used bookstore to sell.

I went through the CDs and boxed up about 100 to sell. I'm taking them to the Wherehouse to sell. I am keeping about 100, but put them all into a CD binder and am tossing the jewel cases.

(Streamlined bookcase, here I come!)

I recently replaced all the dishes with Corelle, and the stoneware dish set is boxed ready for donation today. That's 40 pieces. Plus, I'm donating some old dolls and stuffed animals, clothes, and framed pictures that don't suit me anymore.

I think that my recent cleaning purge has hit the 400 mark already!!

I got rid of 78 things from the garage today!!! A bunch of plastic toys that I snuck out of DD's room months ago, candles that I never use, a diaper genie, and a whole bunch of other things. I'm so proud!! We got 1/2 of our garage back because I managed to compact the other stuff in smaller boxes.

Yea! This is just what I needed! I'm in!

Thats me exactly!!!

However I decided today that I was going to work on my bathroom. I threw out at least 20 things and put 10 things into a "give to family/friends" bag. I work at a major Beauty Supply Store as a distributor sales consultant. So I receive lots of free items. I can only use so much. About once a month I'll go through it all and make a bag to give away. So I did that today!

I didn't count, but I'm calling my 500 challenge done. We cleaned our closet and bedroom out and threw away/donated 6 bags and 2 boxes of crap, Plus a huge rubbermaid box that had shoes but was all cracked and saggy

I'm going to try for another 500!

Being picked up tomorrow (freecycle)

a dresser/changing table (This is so big I feel like it should be worth more than 1 item but oh well!)
an infant car seat
a ceramic watermelon "basket" - we got this for our wedding 6.5 years ago and have never used it. been sitting on a shelf on a garage. finally made the decision to just give it away instead of trying to sell it at a yard sale. looks like it's going to a good home - someone who makes fruit salads all the time for summer cookouts.

Only at 29/500 but getting motivated....
