Breastfeeding after breast reduction..I think I just really offended my friend!!

I just talked with a friend who just had a baby a week ago. SHe had breast reduction surgery many years ago. I was calling just to say Hi and see how she was. She was just coming from the lactation consultant, so I asked about that. She's having some trouble...and almost sounds like she thinks they'll have to go to formula. I guess she's probably pretty sensitive about this issue (I would be too) because when I asked if they suggested keeping baby to breast 24/7 for a few days she got very offended and said she wouldn't do that and that they don't suggest that. I asked WHY NOT...and this led to a few other sharp comments. Well, I'm feeling really bad and jsut wrote her an email to apologize. She is moving in two weeks, so has a lot of stress in addition to a new baby! I guess I'm just wondering if anyone else successfully breastfed after breast reduction. OK...thanks for your comments

Sure, people have... I think it largely depends on the surgeon, where the incisions were, if one of the main nerves got cut, and how much ductal tissue is still there. I'm sorry about your friend, it does sound like she is really stressed out, and hormones are probably swinging too... sounds like a difficult situation either way.

She might want to look into donated milk. Even if it's not exclusive, every bit helps. Check out the thread about Milkshare.

In fact ATM I'm pumping--dropping off about 25 oz. tomorrow to a family that could not nurse.
