I didn't think 'd feel paranoid already this time round...lol
But when I was washing my pans after dinner I noticed that my stupid Teflon pan (which I wanted to get rid of anyway) has scartches on it - ugh. And later when I ran my finger nail n it, some pieces, however small, flaked off. Sigh. I threw them all out - lol (thank god I have some stianless steel lying around). I'm praying we didn't ingest anything harmful, but if we did...how bad is it for baby??

Take a long deep breath . . . call your care provider if you're really concerned, but everything is probably fine. Stay positive!

i wouldn't worry about it lauro - but good that you got rid of them so you won't stress.

I can tell you that teflon itself is very intert. DH is a chemist and he swears that you could eat teflon like popcorn and it would just come out the other end completley unchanged without any effect on your system. The only concern is the adhesive used to stick the teflon to the pan. (If you think about it, it's got to be some crazy sticky stuff to stick to the teflon, right?) That stuff isn't so good for you, but the miniscule quantity you might possibly have ingested is very unlikely to have any impact whatsoever on you or the baby. It's great that you got rid of the pan, as it'll give you peace of mind, but please don't worry over this.

We're actually moving away from teflon pans in our house because the adhesive layer can degrade at temperatures that are not outside the normal range for stovetop use, and that makes us a little nervous. But we're not throwing out all the pans right away. I'm just trying to cook at lower temperatures and watch them closely for wear. As they wear out, we're replacing them with enameled cast iron, stainless steel, etc.

Thanks Ladies!
My paranoia has subsided - lol! Most of my pans at stainless steel, so to get rid of the 3 Teflon isn't such a big deal. Plus we just got a bonus at work and I figure I'll use a little of that for my new pots!!!

Cast Iron Rules

Cast Iron cook wear rules!! I am in love with my cast iron skillet, it is the origional non stick (once it is seasoned) Good luck and dont stress. The stress is probably worse for the baby than the little bits of teflon.
