Reactive attachment disorder?

MY DsD has Reactive Attachment Disorder and PTST. We just got the RAD diagnosis a month ago, and I've been searching everywhere for information on it and how to treat it. I've found a few things, but none of it seems to give ideas to help her get better. Does anyone here know anything about this? One of the sites said something about cuddling with her while giving her a bottle of warm milk. This seems odd to my lactivist mind - take a great lactivist 9 year old and give her a bottle? If it will help I'll do it, but...

: I have no idea what I should be doing right now.

This American Life had an episode about RAD a few weeks ago.

Under Episodes by Year on the left handside, click 06. It's the first episode listed. The second story addresses this issue - and the therapy is similar to what you described, a lot of eye contact, a lot of lying together, and it was interesting because the son who had been adopted from a Romanian orphanage actually talked about how he felt about the therapy, and that it did help.

My mom specializes in treating RAD. She's in TN, though. If you want, I can give you her # and maybe she could point you in the right direction. PM me if you're interested.

Nancy Thomas was a good resource for me when talking with foster parents regarding RAD.

If she'll sit in your lap and take a bottle from you, she's probably not RAD. These kids fight attachment tooth and nail.

She wouldn't do it most of the time, especially if I wanted her to do it. She fits the descriptions I've found on different websites. Thank you for the website, it's helping alot.

Thank you so much for this, I wanted to cry as I heard it. I'm glad to hear she can get better, but I'm also feeling very overwhelmed.

Finch - thank you.
