breastfeeding and hives?

I'm a mod for a breastfeeding forum on another board...

one of the members has a friend who's doctor has said her hives were caused from lactation and is advising formula... she posted on monday and it had been three days since the baby was fed bm... the mom still has hives... I was only able to find one article on it online and it didn't say much... I feel like I really need to get some good info over to this member to pass on to her friend.

Any help appreciated!!!!

that sounds like a whole lot of bull to me.
does the poster live in a more northern climate? because ds got hives last week and they were terrible, big red welts all over his body. we called the public health nurse and talked to a few people and weren't getting any answers that fir our situation - then i found online that getting cold can cause hives on babies. the weather had just turned. so we started putting ds in layers and the hives went away just like that.
i hope this helps.

it's the mother that has hives, not the baby.

Maybe they can get together and go to an allergist. :P I have no idea!

I know there are people who can be allergic to their own skin, so maybe being allergic to your own milk wouldn't be that far a stretch.
