Anyone Else's NB Sleeping Habits Changing Suddenly?

Anyone else's NB sleeping habits changing suddenly? Our DD is almost 6-weeks old and the last couple of weeks she had dramatically cutdown on daytime napping but slept beautifully at night. Now, for the last 3 nights, she is wide awake, flailing, vocal, and quite grumpy until about 2 in the morning. We have a nursing marathon (which is fine), but it gets to the point if she does not have my nipple in her mouth, she'll wail. I stop feeling a let down after a certain point and can tell that she is lazily sucking. After this, she'll sleep through for about the next 6-hours or so before feeding again.

Is this a growth spurt? Or just 6-week old behavior? I'm a new mom and don't know what to expect....except that everything is always changing....so, this phase will pass, too??

Sounds normal to me. My little guy's sleep routine has changed several times and he's only 8wks. It could be part of a growth spurt.

Oh, I figured it was normal. I just knew it was too good to be true and to last when she immediately started sleeping for 5-hour stretches! She has just started getting so upset so quickly in those late evening hours, bless her little heart. Was just wondering if anyone else's wee little one was going thru this.

Yup-- my sweet girl hasn't slept more than 10 minutes today. Not since 6am. It's like a nursing marathon combined with a sleep strike. I'm so sleepy and hungry and my nips are achey! :

She'll be 5 weeks on Monday. I don't know what's going on... but at least she doesn't cry, eh?

Hee-hee! That is what I used to say, along with, "And atleast she sleeps so long at night!"

Good thing I'd follow that up with, "But I know this can change any day."

The grumpiness and napless daytimes really started increasing at 5-weeks. Oh, Magpiedee, I hope your DC isn't headed towards a late night grump fest too!

If you can, look into "The Wonder Weeks", it's about their fussy stages and is a life saver when you're thinking, WHAT THE HECK is wrong with this child??? 6 weeks is time for a growth spurt as well and mine do it at 5w (3rd child to do this) so maybe she is as well.

I don't start to EVER assume (or try not to) that they'll sleep any particular way because when I do, they change it that night I swear. I'm just grateful for 3+ hour stretches.

My little one is having this same pattern (at 5w 5d)... went from being a great napper to be super alert and active all day. She is still sleeping well at night (5-7 hr stretches) but is definately more fussy in the evenings. Could this just be her getting over her super sleepy newborn stage? (she was early so she was actually extra sleepy for those first few weeks). I am thinking maybe it's a growth spurt though, cause she is also really hungry too, but not sure. Just as I was saying "oh she's such a good napper"... now she won't sleep a wink during the day! Man, these new babies change alot in a sort amount of time!

Is "The wonder weeks" from a particular book? Or is it a website? Where can I get more info on it?

She is definately in a Wonder Week! Wow, that really helps to clarify what has been going on here. Just reading what little info I could find on the internet made last night a whole other experience. I just love epiphanies!

Oh! And "The Wonder Weeks" is a book, but I found a little info last night....http://www.cyh.com/HealthTopics/Heal...np=122&id=2312

We've got that going on, too. DS slept most of the night at first, and was mostly awake and calm during the day. Now he's sleeping large chunks of the day and then rants and raves until 2 am. I wrote this in another thread, but rocking out is the only thing that gets us through it. His current favorite is Nirvana. But it's pretty exhausting, rocking out until 2 am. I guess I'm getting old.
