So, I found out that an old high school friend of mine's having a boy. I call her up, and bring circ. up. She's like, "yeah, we researched it and discussed it, not sure what we're going to do yet. My ped is from South America, where it's rare but had his boys done; b/c he was living here. He told me to 'Remember, you can't put it back on. If you keep him intact, you're son might grow up and thank you or might be pissed at you, but he can always have it done later, if he decides, but you can't put it back on."
Way to go doc! (sounds like someone regrets his decision!) She also said to me "Hey, do you remember Mr. Wilkin's from junior high science? Well, I happened to see him at the grocery store and he came up to me and asked me what I was having. When I told him it was a boy, he was like 'Are you going to circumcise him?' I told him that we weren't sure. He told me 'We didn't get my son circumcised and he's an adult now, and thanks me for it'"
I was like "Good for him... coming up to you and saying something!" ( Way to go, Teach!) We discussed it more, you know, I gave her the usual info. But, now that I read "Sex as Nature Intended It", I also told her that "some people think there's no function to the foreskin, that's not true. As a matter of fact, circ'ing can lead to disinterest in sex, premature ejaculation, or someone who can't ejaculate for a long time." I mentioned the disinterest part b/c her dh never wants to dtd with her (maybe 1-2 times/year!) and it's a source of anger and resentment for her.
She was like "Did you get Peter done?" I said, "Yeah, I'm not really into the whole 'people tying my kids down and cutting up their genitals', thing. I don't believe in circumcising my dd either."
Anyway, I hope she doesn't do it. I gave her all of the gory details and important info. Oh yeah, and I said "Hey, you never know, your son might come out and you might love him just the way he is. You might think he's beautiful, just the way you and Shawn created him." I know... I'm so bad!
