BF and my period

Thread Starter
The last few times I've had my period, my son has been really fussy and clingy. Do you think this is just a coincidence, or do you think maybe having my period has affected how my milk tastes? Maybe it makes him gassy? I don't know, I guess I'm just trying to figure it out, and the only link I can see between his behavior during my period is the BF. Any ideas? Suggestions?

In many women there is a drop in supply around their period.

Yes! Please, nurse, nurse, nurse your babe during the week before and during. Us moms who pump really notice this dip in supply, often as much as a 20% decrease, but many moms I know who nurse don't realize it and get really annoyed with their "fussy" babe. I have one friend who is extremely mainstream (yucky) and she will NEVER feed her son more than 5 times per day (even with her cycle), and wonders why he is so small and cranky

Mine used to drop too, for the 6 months or so between my first PP period and getting pregnant again... it's pretty normal. I would get some wicked nipple pain too during that time.

I'd second the supply drop also...for me, it's way more than 20%......some months i actually go dry for a couple days with notthing more than a few drops until i work the supply up again....(this started around 18 months, so not with an infant, thank god!)

I EP and my supply takes a big dump the week before and the first couple of days of my period. Dd hates to eat during this time so I am convinced my milk changes flavor too.

My daughter eats like mad during that time, way more than usual and often to the point where we are racing to see if I can make enough milk to feed her. I believe that it is probable that the fat content of this milk is lower, thus increasing her need for more milk. The whole thing makes no sense to me - seems like a bad design, doesn't it?
