WAH Roll Call

Thread Starter
I noticed the WOH roll call and didn't see a recent one for WAH parents.

I'd be interested in how the rest of you WAH parents do it. Here are some questions I was wondering about. Feel free to ask your own.

Are you partnered or single?

How many hours a week do you work?

How do you schedule it around your children's schedules?

Do your children go to school? How old are they?

Do you have child care in your home? Out of your home?

Do you have your business set up officially so that you can write off expenses?

Do you have employees or outside help with your business?

Thanks, in advance and I'll answer first

I'm single.

Currently, I do not work very many hours as I will not be officially setting up shop, so to speak, until September. I already have a couple of clients but am still in school until the end of August.

I plan on doing a pre-school/playschool program two mornings a week which my children will be involved in. I will also be doing tutoring 3 - 4 evenings a week for which I plan on having a babysitter come over and occupy the girls. The rest of my business (bookkeeping/office assistance/etc.), I plan to do during nap time and after bedtime.

I am planning to homeschool/unschool. My children are 4 and 19 months. This is one of the main reasons I would like to WAH.

I plan on having in-home childcare and I suspect my sister will occasionally watch my girls, as needed. (She is opening her salon in the fall and I will be providing her with childcare when she needs it, so this will be another source of income.)

I will be setting up my business officially. It will be better for me financially as I can write off part of my monthly expenses for living space (the portion used as work space) and items such as materials for the playschool program, lunches, etc.

I will not have employees but would like to grow to the point where I need employees unless I get into something else before that happens.

Peace.

(PS -- Please don't feel obligated to answer all questions or in order!)

I don't know if I count as a WAH mama as I only do it part time.

I work approximately 10-20 hours a week at home... the rest at work... I try to do at much as home as possible.

As I use day care for when I am at work, I generally work after ds has gone to bed. Works great as it requires less child care but unfortunately sometimes I suffer from lack of sleep. As I'm home fairly early in the day to enjoy lots of one on one time with ds, my dh has started doing the whole bedtime ritual which frees me up to start earlier... thus go to sleep much earlier!!

Even though I'm not a business, I am able to write off expenses that my company doesn't pay for but that I need in order to work from home such as an internet cable connection.

If I worked at home all day, I'd probably go with in home day care an au pair as I'd be home all day to kind of monitor the situation so I'd feel a lot better with that kind of situation than if I wasn't there all the time..... but I guess it would kind of depend on what your business is......

I do do teleconferences when ds is around... everyone has just gotten used to the "mamamama" and sometimes screeching.

Are you partnered or single? Single

How many hours a week do you work? As much as I can, LOL... tho usually actual sewing time is only a couple hours a day... computer/web work much more.

How do you schedule it around your children's schedules? i sew when she naps or when her and dh go to sleep... other than that i try to sneak in computer work when she is playing on her own.

Do your children go to school? How old are they? no... 23 months.. tho she starts preschool in september.

Do you have child care in your home? no

Do you have your business set up officially so that you can write off expenses? yes.. a MUST HAVE for the amount of money i spend on fabric, LOL

Do you have employees or outside help with your business? nope!

I think allot of us signed in on the WOH Roll call, too. I didn't feel I was excluded.

But here I go again:

Are you partnered or single?
I'm married.

How many hours a week do you work?
Rough guess would be 30. This week I have been thoroughly unproductive (to much time on MDC)

How do you schedule it around your children's schedules?
DS is in a home daycare 5 days a week.

Do your children go to school? How old are they?
DS will be 3 in May!

Do you have your business set up officially so that you can write off expenses?
If you mean do I pay taxes on my income then yes. I am not incorporated or anything.

Do you have employees or outside help with your business? I am looking for an accountant locally. I hope to find another WAHP (seems to be a few Dad/homebased accountants in the 'hood).

Hi
I work mostly from home but put in 12 hours/week in a 32-40 hour work week at the office.

I'm married and usually do most of my work while Dh is home on the weekends (he has 3 day weekends as do I).
I'm working right now (cause my internet connection is sooooo slow) so, while I'm waiting for things to load up, I do some of my computer work on my lap top.

No day care, although maybe start a Waldorf preschool next fall?????

It isn't my OWN business so no tax stuff and no other employees (well not that I supervise or that work out of the house with me).

Its kinda difficult some times to work the schedule I do, but totallly worth it to be there with DS!!!!

Are you partnered or single? Partnered to my Robbie

How many hours a week do you work? I think 24/7 but for the business I work at least 25-30 now as I'm setting it up, we'll see about the future...

How do you schedule it around your children's schedules?
dd is still a baby and she is really easy going and just does whatever whenever, KWIM?

Do your children go to school? How old are they? dd= 4mos

Do you have child care in your home? Out of your home? I plan on doing childcare for one other mom as soon as we move

Do you have your business set up officially so that you can write off expenses? Yes yes yes!

Do you have employees or outside help with your business?
No, MIL holds baby sometimes while I use the comp, if that counts...

So, yeah, I'll be on the web shortly, I'm going to a friend's to do the site this week, cross your fingers that we'll be up by Wednesday!! And check this link AFTER April 22nd (so that would be the 23rd or later) www.mamasmith.com and you can see how productive we were.
