Hi mamas-
Well, I went in for my 41 week appt. with one of my midwives where they required an NST and vaginal exam. The good news (although prob. irrelevant) is that I am 3cms and 100% effaced; the bad is that baby wasn't as responsive in terms of movement as they would have liked to see so they sent me for an ultrasound and full biophysical profile. (Now- baby has never been active during the day, so I wasn't surprised.)
They were able to get what they "needed" in terms of high scores on the BPP within 10 minutes- baby was practicing breathing, had 3 distinct movements, fluid level was great and placenta was still within functioning range. The only thing they couldn't get was a flexion of a hand or leg to determine tone- apparently they give the baby 30 minutes to move 4 times- we only had 3 movements.
Baby's movements have decreased in the past few weeks, but all other signs looked good. At this point, my midwife said she could induce simply by breaking my water- she said I was very favorable and it wouldn't take much to get me into active labor. I am 41 + 1 today and am so confused and getting a little nervous by the lack of movement. Any thoughts, mamas? I know that intentional rupture of membranes before active labor carries its own risks- infection, higher risk of cord prolapse and pitocin if the labor doesn't progress within a certain time frame. That said, if baby isn't responding well to the amniotic environment, I do want to have he or she arrive as soon as possible.
What do you think??
