Curious about something!

Okay this is prob. going to sound really dumb but once a baby/toddler etc weans they are done for good right?

...My DD didn't wean by choice, I was only able to bf her for 3 months due to low supply (She was a preemie and I had to pump) and then made the mistake of getting on depo which totally dried up my milk. Anyway I have felt guilty ever since and miss bfing sooo much. I am currently pregnant with #2 and was thinking that since I am going to bf this baby is there a way I could try and bf DD #1 again? Would that be weird? Has anyone ever done that? Would it be impossible to go back to bfing now that she is 20 months? She will be 25 months once the baby is born. I guess maybe I will just have to resign myself to the fact that she won't ever bf again but I was curious if it would be possible to bf her again?!! Hope this makes sense and isn't a totally dumb question!

not a dumb question at all. if you can get her to latch you can totally nurse her. if not you can still give her BM in a cup.

The main thing I am worried about is since it has been soo long since I have nursed her I am afraid she might bite me lol or not know what to do. I guess I can work with her though and try it and if not I think I will give her bm in a cup, thanks for the suggestions!! :

Not a wierd question. I told myself to be open to the idea. I stopped nursing DS at 15 mos when I was 3 mos pregnant with DS2. After I had the baby and he saw the baby nursing, I think he wanted to do it too. One day, when I was laying in the bed, he walked up, grabbed my boob, and I said "Go ahead, it's ok." He put his mouth on, but didn't latch on and just smiled at me. No big deal, he just realized he didn't remember how to do it (he was 21 mos old then) I later tried to give him some in a cup when I started pumping and had less than an oz... I wasn't prepared for his response: "Ewwww!" So, that was the end of that. I was almost hurt that he didn't like my milk, but I got over it.

Not a dumb question at all! There are so many benefits of nursing a baby many years. My one daughter I nursed almost three years. The other daughter over three years. My girls are sooo healthy! If your daughter is interested, latches on, then great! She will get so many benefits. Try to do this in the early months while your supply is getting established. The extra stimulation will tell the breast to make extra milk for your second child. The more breastmilk our children get, the better. In third world countries, many mothers nurse in the toddler years because their child's health and mortality depend upon it! In the US we don't see that as much due to our high industrialized and more sanitary conditions. A friend of mine breastfed her son for three years. She later had a daughter that she was nursing. When that son was 8 or 9 (can't remember which) he was very sick with a sickness that was going through the house. My friend expressed some milk for her son and put it into the cup. I think she may have put some chocolate or something in it so it wouldn't seem so weird to him. My friend said that this helped her son to get better. So, there moral of all that I am saying here, is good for you! Society may say differently. Especially those who are not as informed about breastfeeding, but researchers who really know about breastfeeding certainly know the benefits! I wish you well!
