I recently had my hand slapped for providing TMI

So, recently I was told (not here, of course) that providing a link-even an unclickable one-to circumcision pictures/video was "too much information". I soon found that even suggesting that parents google a specific term like "cirp plastibell video" in order to find such information themselves was also considered providing "too much information".

I've now aquired an official "ding". Needless to say, I'm quite frustrated and angry. I don't think you can ever have too much information when it comes to amputative, non-medically indicated genital reduction surgery on an infant.

I didn't know you could have too much info. on your child's care.
If something you are choosing is too much to watch how is it ok to experiance?
Unreal.

Can you link to here from there, & provide slightly vague innuendoes that if you think it is ethical, you can get a look from a link here at mdc? How much can you sneak past? I think to a certain extent that is civil disobedience, & a moral imperative.

Jen, so sorry that happened to you.

Some people are so threatened by what intactivists have to say that they look for any way to shut it down.

I didn't realize that being informed is a bad thing. People can be so disappointing sometimes in that they would rather honest, truthful information squelched, in order to remain happily ignorant and not disturb the status quo.....

I guess you could always look at it as though you are obviously rocking their (comfortable) boat and you must be some sort of threat....

I can go on, but I'm sure to violate the UA.:

I have an email to the mods, making my case and asking them to consider a policy change that allows for at least suggesting a phrase to google. That way, there's no risk of someone accidently clicking and becoming offended but it still makes the information available to those willing to seek it out.

Tmi

They should call it TMT...too much truth.

Some people will do anything to supress the truth. Esp. if it is less than warm and fuzzy. :

Wait, where is this? *confuzzled*

I don't get it, are they afraid that providing too much information may deter people from getting their sons circ'd? :

That's the crazy part! You just provided links (unclickable so someone would have to WANT to open them) and a phrase to google...how can that be TMI? The information wasn't given, just resources to find the info! :

I got in trouble on another message board for similar things. Absurd, IMO. :

Did your post get taken down?

This sounds a lot like the oppression people in communist/religiously ruled countries face when they seek information about anything that is not "the party line".

Nice work, America. Nice.

tmi? tmi? honestly, if you can't handle watching the video, you shouldn't be mutilating your son.

end. of. story.
It's the truth and "they can't handle the truth"

So sad!!

Some times people need to live in peaceful ignorance. If they saw and accepted the truth they would have to admit that they have or plan to torture and mutilate thier babies in the name of vanity. Or admit that they are willing to do it for thier own sexual preference.

That sounds about right. There are a lot of people with a vested emotional interest in keeping circumcision going, so they can feel justified in their choice.

grrrr!!! :TMI??? this is what people allow to happen to their sons! if they can't handle it, if its considered, "TMI", like it's something horrible and gross (which it is, but these people behave as if its TOTALLY okay), then why??? why let it happen at all!?

to me, that reaction is veeeery telling...

No, it was allowed to stay as well as two links to drawings of the Plastibell procedure...so, that's good anyway. My entire post was in response to hearing the myth that the Plastibell ("ring" or "bell" method) was this wonderful, new, cut-free, "virtually painless" (yes, someone actually said that) procedure.

I wrote:

Circumcision without cutting? The truth about the Plastibell method.

The belief that Plastibell doesn't require cutting and is virtually painless is a myth; it requires just as much cutting as other methods. The Plastibell requires crushing and cutting a dorsal slit to place the bell, and trimming the skin around the ring after the ligature is tied.

Drawing, explaining the procedure from Hollister the manufacturer of the Plastibell device:

Another drawing, showing how a Plastibell circumcision is done:

Plastibell procedure photos:

Plastibell procedure video:

(47 seconds)

The truth is, the other methods (gomco, mogen) clamp the skin before it's cut. The plastibell method just crushes the skin and cuts off the blood flow with a string instead. It's really not that different.
I encourage EVERYONE to share that on the more mainstream boards.
