Life with a babe week of 10/2 - Page 2

post #21 of 32
Lainey was 2 weeks old yesterday! We're having so much fun with her. She's still a very mellow baby. Today is the first time I've laid her down for a nap, I just couldn't put her down before and today I wanted to see if she'd sleep without me holding her. She's been sleeping in our bed for almost 45 minutes now and I've wasted all of that time sitting here instead of doing the countless other things I could be doing instead LOL.

Nursing is still going great with Elaina! I can't believe it actually, Emilee was so hard to nurse. Could have been that she was tounge tied and we didn't even know it! I actually enjoy breastfeeding this time and don't mind when she gets up in the middle of the night to nurse. We still haven't gotten the hang of side-lying nursing. Well, we can do it, but I can't sleep during it because my boobs will suffocate the poor thing! Oh well, I'm sure once her head gets bigger it will get better.

We ventured out to the store for the first time today. It was nice and she did wonderfully in the babyhawk! I love that carrier. So comfortable and Lainey goes right to sleep in it

Ooops I hear a little one waking up! Gotta go

Lauren is 3 weeks old today!

BFing is going better than last week, I am using a nipple shield because I had two cracked, swollen, overly sensative, flat nipples. I want to ween her (me?) off it this week.

She's terribly gassy, and I can only imagine it's at least in part due tothe nipple shield. I try to correct her latch when I hear her gulping air, but I don't know... She's been inconsolable with the gas the past couple of nights. Must be upright, held, burped, bounced and walked all at once. I'm trying tummy massage, burping frequently during feeding, bicycling her legs, and Mylicon drops. She's been spitting up more than normal, probably because of all the actions we're taking to help her with the gas. I just hate to see that breast milk come back up!

She sleeps pretty well on her own, on us or next to us, so we've been pretty lucky in that regard. She's only "fussy" when the gas is hurting her.

4 more weeks till I go back to work. Blah. At least I know she'll be with Daddy mostly and Grandma for only a couple hours a week. I just can't imagine going anywhere and doing anything without her. She's totally changed our lives already!

Have you kept a journal of what you've been eating? It may not be her latch, and may be something she's reacting to in your diet. So far, our little Elisabeth does NOT agree with melon, apples or asparagus. She had projectile vomiting and gas with each one. I keep a food journal and then write down when she spits up or is gassy. May be worth a try

:

For Trinity, it's Oats, caffiene & chocolate in baked foods {for some odd reason, she can tolerate me eating a hersheys bar, but not homemade brownies?}

so, i've been bragging to my friends and family about how mellow felix has been, and how much more sleep i've been getting than i had imagined i would while still preg ... and then we had a frustrating night last night. i HAD to be standing while swaying and bouncing and singing to him or things were just wrong in his world! dont get me wrong, i knew that it was coming, and probably at the time when i needed sleep the most, and it did!!! but dammit, even when i'm frustrated, i still love him so much it hurts: i'm sure it's something to do with a growth spurt or the like. how much they grow!!! had his 2wk checkup at the ped and he's grown 1 1/4 inches!!! only an oz more that his birth weight, but i can tell he's about to pack on some weight by the way he's nursing

just wanted to post a little brag on me and phin... we took him in for a weight chech yesterday and he gained 2lbs in exactly 2wks!!! he was 9.4 at birth, went down to 8.8 at day 2, and yesterday he weighed in at 10.8. :
this is a big deal for me because although i've never had supply issues both my DDs had latch/nursing issues and did't gain well the first few weeks. i guess the third time is the charm. :

Connor is 6 weeks already, almost 7 - I can't believe how fast it's going. Everybody would say thing like that to me when ds1 was a baby, and I always wanted to scream because the first few months with a screaming high needs babe were the longest days & nights of my life. Ds2, on the other hand, is such a happy little guy - plus, I'm also busy taking care of ds1 so I have lot more to do than I did during ds1's newborn weeks.

We haven't officially weighed Connor, he sees the ped next week, but we think he's around 12 lbs, such a chunky monkey!! I need new diaper covers in a major way because he's outgrown all but 2 of the newborn ones thanks to his chubby thighs. He's been smiling these big sweet baby smiles for about 2 weeks now, it just melts me. Connor's sleep is amazingly predictable & easy - again, COMPLETE opposite from ds1. He starts yawning precisely at 7 pm, is usually asleep by 8:30, and wakes once or twice between then and 4 am. After 4, he wakes pretty frequently and we are usually up for the day around 6:30 or 7. He loves being swaddled and I'm so in love with the SwaddleMe blanket, it's so easy to use.

Anybody with a toddler plus newborn having struggles with the toddler? That's been the hardest part for me so far. Sleep issues, tantrums, clinginess, getting in baby's face all the time, sigh. Will come back and post more later, or maybe start another thread on this, as baby is waking, but would love to hear how other older siblings are doing...
