man thats an inspiration.

we live in a 4 bedroom house that is much more cluttered. this makes me really want to declutter our home.

i would love to say that everything i have i love or need. i cant say that right now.

Those pictures are fabulous. I love the way you've set up your living room! We live in a 2BR 513 sq ft house. It certainly does make you realize what you NEED to keep and what you don't.

Baby steps...

Delight, did you choose a spot to begin de-cluttering and work on that spot until it was finished and then move on, or did you (somehow) de-clutter the whole house as a whole over time?

I'm a little overwhelmed by my "stuff"; I just want some advice as to the best way to approach this.

ETA: Where did you buy the cabinet you store your stereo in? (I've been looking for something similar to store my dishes in my dining area, rather than giving them prime space in the kitchen.)

I'm so without words. I too love reds, yellows, greens, and bright colors and on the all white background is amazing. Although it can be restrictive to not be able to paint, but seriously it really looks great. Kudos to your landlady for not skimping on cheap appliances it will really pay off. I so want to redo our house and looking at smaller homes only wants me to downsize more. Love it!!!

So I'd like to see a few more pictures ,
The apartment *after* you've had the flu.
The apartment *after* you've had guests over.

Also, other than guitar, what hobbies does your husband have?
I know you do photography, home design, cooking, and inducing inspiration in others--any other hobbies?

Do you have a VHS/DVD collection at all? Where? Where's your computer hidden? Do you have more books somewhere?

What, if anything, helped you in your layout decisions? What's the process you went through to compress a huge house to a tiny apartment? (I probably should look at your blog again.)

Have you found any difficulty in sharing laundry space with other families?

Also, your bedroom has proven to me once again that the space above the shelves in our closets is wasted. I'm definitely going to put in cupboards like you've got in our next house, and am considering putting them in this house.

that's so lovely! we've always lived in between 500-900 sq feet so we're big fans of smaller spaces too. very beautiful home!

beautiful! I am jealous. We have so much "stuff". Its about 1800 sq ft, plus 2 story garage and storage shed and everything looks cluttered. : We talked about going bigger, but that would just give dh a reason to get more stuff. :

The projector is actually for work...but we get to "store" it when it's not in use It just sits on top of the electronics cabinet (you can see it in that photo) and the sound comes through the surround sound.

Wow! Your apartment looks great!

I really like small spaces. Dh not so much, BUT we have talked about when we are older and the boys have moved out, that we could get a place about the size of the townhouse we rented when we were first married. A compromise for both of us...a bit bigger than I would prefer, a bit smaller than what he likes.

I love all the color in your home! Just beautiful! I've marked your blog and will be reading.

Enjoy your new home and thank you so much for sharing pictures of your home with us AND the story of your journey. Also, love all the little "boxes" that you can run the mouse over and the extra, interesting info on there.

What an inspiration!

Little by little...

I was so inspired by this thread yesterday that I went right home after work and de-cluttered my telephone table. (Sounds like no big deal, I know, but, trust me, it needed doing! : )

Now there is nothing extraenous on the table.

On the top shelf: phone, basket for incoming mail (the telephone table is positioned directly under the mail slot, so it seems logical to have the mail basket on the telephone table.)

On the bottom shelf: basket for keys, city phone book, personal phone/address book

That's it! I love (or at least use - I don't exactly "love" the city phone book! ) everything on the table, I can find whatever I need, and you can see and appreciate the table itself. (My grandad made it for me, and I it...)

Thanks for the inspiration. I plan on doing another small space tonight!

We are going to be moving in a couple of months. My husband wants something with a lot of square footage so we can have room for our "stuff". I told him we can just get rid of things. We don't NEED everything we have. He will not part with anything that he paid for. We need to move because we simply cannot afford our rent anymore. I'm going to look for something smaller. We live in an 1100 sq ft apartment now. Maybe 600 sq ft would work for us.....

My DH is the same way!! :

ETA: Okay, that's not exactly true.. He's gotten rid of a bunch of stuff.. I'm proud of him! It's definitely hard for him.
