"Our research showed that when women are pregnant, they start looking at healthier lifestyles [and] are more open to organics," said Keri Butler, a spokeswoman at Similac, a division of Abbott Ross, Columbus, Ohio. Last February, Similac was the first national brand to launch an organic baby formula. Wal-Mart rolled out Parent's Choice this past summer. Organic food company Hain Celestial, Melville, N.Y., starts to ship Earth's Best Infant Formula this month.

You know, my husband insists that if we could slickly package breastmilk and charge people an arm and a leg for it, they'd totally be lining up to buy it.

They already do that...at the milk banks. :

(well, I don't know about the packaging)

I actually had an argument with a woman who insisted that her organic formula was better than my breastmilk because I wasn't organic. :

I think organic formula is better than regular formula, but it in no way compares to BM. I used Baby's Only organic when I had to stop BF--it was actually cheaper than Enfamil.

I think my breastmilk is pretty slickly packaged.

And that pretty much sums THIS topic up...

I suppose if there's no way the mom is going to BF I would rather it be organic formula. But then, how organic is it? Because Rice Crispies claims to be organic now these days too and I still wouldn't feed it to my kids.

You have to admit though, if you truely couldn't BF (say a double mastectomy) wouldn't you buy organic. (Of course only if the breastmilk bank told you their waiting list was too long or you didn't qualify.)

I used organic powdered formula to supplement my non-nursing ds until we switched to a raw milk based formula(WAP recipe). I didn't realize at first how truly terrible powdered/RTF "formulas" are. They are so highly processed that it is astonishing that they can even be considered a food product, much less the chosen method to nourish babies that don't get breastmilk.

See, how I see it, the whole concept of conventional formula is based on the "all calories are equal" myth. I don't think anyone(at MDC anyway) would say that ultra heat treated, vacuum evaporated and 400 degrees F spray dried breastmilk with added artificial vitamins and reconsituted with water would be nutritious for an infant. All formulas are is cow milk treated in this way, with added sugar(either corn syrup or lactose), artificial vitamins and minerals(which could be potentially toxic in and of themselves) and water. *GAG*

Oh yeah, and I just learned that the cans of powder aren't even sterile, isn't that nice? I've gotten so many accusations that I'm "playing with fire" by feeding my son donor breastmilk and an organic raw milk whole foods formula. What a twisted world we live in.
