what about adoption? - Page 2

At Last! Close to my heart..adoption

Oh boy! Am I ever glad I stuck with it, and kept looking for the subject of adoption! My dh and I have three grown kids,
who have children of their own now. Thinking our home was
too empty : , we applied to become foster parents. Then our son moved in, got a divorce, and got sole custody of his two little girls! By then, we were foster parents to drug exposed babies...three of them. Two moved on, and one little girl who is now 3 years old, we are adopting. She is beautiful, compassionate, sweet, good natured...... , all that jazz!!
You can be a foster parent to any age you want, any sex you want, any ANYTHING you want (at least in Oklahoma!)..they said to us "it's your house..you say what you want to do". We are so happy...yes, even with our 5 little ones under the age of 4!!

Fostering isn't for everyone, but it sure works for us, and you can have a baby if that's what you want. We told them we only want infants from birth to age 6 months...race, color, religion, etc don't matter to us.

Momeforgirls, so glad fostering is working out so well for you!!! It would be nice if fostering was as flexible everywhere as what you've experienced!

Since there are so many adoptive parents are chiming in, I thought I'd offer my two cents as a birthmom. My birthdaughter was born 5 1/2 years ago, and is placed in a completely open adoption. While it hasn't been smooth sailing the whole way, she definitly reaps the benefits of knowing where she came from, and she will never have to search for answers or endure a traumatic reunion.

For information and support, I would suggest the boards at Parentsplace.com to start. The adoption debate board can be rough since so many people there live and breathe adoption and are sometimes impatient with a newbie's ignorance. BUt if you stick around, you will learn loads about the issues surrounding adoption from all sides of the triad. There is also very friendly adoptive parent support board at Parentsplace.

Good luck building your family!!
