Has anyone every done one ( have a pic to share?) We are planning on doing one after the MW does her little talk about the story of the placenta/ tree of life etc. Today I made sure to get some good quality large watercolor paper.

I was just telling a friend about these yesterday and she was so grossed out about the whole thing. I haven't done one before, I guess we'll see where my head is at after this birth since I prob won't end up with the midwife here. I know the girls would get a kick out of it. Who else gets to do artclass after a homebirth? lol

from novddc...
we did some two years ago. my midwife did them for me. lg watercolor paper worked great and we just used the blood- they took awhile not to be stinky! i think she just put the placenta down on a chux pad and laid the water color pad on top and kind of pressed it... looks like a tree! pretty cool. i dont have a picture, and honestly i don't know where it is right now- i intended to have it framed. try it! it is fun and people will think you are strange! (well, they doo me anyway!)

I want to do one too. But I was thinking I could rinse it off, pat it dry, and then use my acrylics and a canvas. But maybe that won't work. I only saw the placenta last time and didn't touch it. I'm not sure how well it will rinse off or hold paint to make a print. Has anyone tried it this way before?

We did a placenta print after the DD's birth in July. I would get several pieces of the paper, out of 5 prints I have one that I like and will get framed, I wish that I had bought a few more sheets. It took a few practice tries! DH and the assistant midwife did them.

Wow - how unusual. Maybe we'll try it (the hospital already thinks we're freaks LOL)
