I'm worried DD is obsessive-compulsive - Page 2

OCD is not something that should be taken lightly.

My DD is 9 and has had OCD since she was just over 1 year old.
It started with shoes and socks. We just could not get them right. To the point that she would run herself into walls. It escalated into hand washing, underwear changing, counting etc. She gets anxiety related headaches and stomacheaches too.
I first sought help for her at 3 years old. Not much was done at the time. Most doctors think it is just a phase that will be out grown.
But she never outgrew it and it just got worse and worse. She would wash her hands until they bled, she could barely make it up the stairs with out counting them. She was officially diagnosed with OCD and ADD at age 5.
OCD can be debilitating and usually just progresses until treatment is sought.
There are many things that can be done, behaviourial therapy seems to be the best, then of course medication and diet.
I think the mixture of all three is very helpful.
My dd is now in the 4th grade, an honor roll student, and never gets in trouble at school. I cannot imagine not having gotten her help.
She takes medication daily. Without it, she would be miserable and so would the rest of the family. Of course, medication needs to be wiehged seriously. There are side effects and they do not work for all people. We are very lucky that they work for her and in small doses.
Please talk to a doctor, holistic physician or a physcotherapist about your daughter. Help is out there for her and for you.
Good luck.....feel free to PM me with any questions you may have.

Wow Katie, I could have written part of your post about my own daughter. The shoe and sock and underwear thing. We even had special clothes. It is such a big diagnoses and a complicated one. I am glad your daughter is doing well.
