Anybody see the ABC news report tonight?

I JUST stepped in the room to a wonderful segment on South African babies whose mothers have died from AIDS, and how there has been a movement started to donate BM to them. It was great b/c it reported how the babies thrived, gained weight, were more responsive, and were sick less!! This is just great that a story like this made the national news. I'm probably behind, and more of you probably know more, but I was just excited to see the story!

I half-heard this report too. I thought it was really great that DHL shipped the boxes of breastmilk from the US to the orphanage for free (I missed what state it was in that the mom organized the donations from, but she got a lot... those boxes were pretty big).

Big thumbs up to all those mommas and to DHL, who donated free shipping from Missouri to South Africa

Anyone planning on donating?

I plan on donating this time. I wanted to when my dd was little, but I never did commit to it. This time around, life is a lot crunchier at this house and I'm so much more aware of the importance of my contribution.

I went and filled out the application to donate.

I would donate if I produced enough.

Does all of the milk donated go to Africa? Or do they put the donations into the main bank and then send some to Africa?

If you follow the link from the report, it gives you the info about donating internationally and within the US. Actually, it encourages you to donate domestically first.

I read about that on the MilkShare Yahoo group. It's so amazing how much milk was donated!
