Repairing Stuffed Animal? Help Needed!!

I have to - my child loves this creature!

It has developed a few bald patches in its fur. I can clearly see the fabric below. I am wondering if there is some kind of dollmaking technique that I could learn and use to fill in the bald spots.

It has short grayish white pile fur, probably acrylic.

Also, does anyone know if can plastic eyes with scratches be buffed to clear again?

I know this isn't the advice you asked for, but since I worked in a craft store for many years and have never even heard of refurring stuffed animals i suspect it can't be done. (not well anyhow.)

My advice is that you get a copy of "The Velveteen Rabbit" and read it to yor child to help child see the warn patches for what they are a sign of love.


BTW "TheVelveteen Rabbit" is my favorite childrens book.

thanks eepster - that was my first thought, too! However if the animal starts to leak stuffing I will do something.
After posting here, I went surfing and discovered that there are "doll hospitals" and "teddy bear hospitals" that do make repairs to stuffed animals... lots of before and after pictures! So there must be some techniques, but perhaps they are trade secrets. I didn't see anything that would help. And I also found out you can easily get replacement eyes though it looksl ike you would have to perform "intercranial surgery" to do that.
