Has she weaned herself?

It seems as if Victoria has decided to wean herself. (She's ten months old) Slowly but surely she did it. I swear I did nothing to push her in this direction and the first night she didn't nurse to sleep I sat and cried for hours. I'm still trying to find a way to cope with it.

I'm not engorged, it doesn't even feel like my breasts have been producing milk since she stopped nursing more than 3 times a day. I can't pump anything out. Nothing in my diet or fluid intake has changed... Could I have stopped producing milk and thats why she weaned? Or was she just ready for it?

She eats so much real food during the day. Most of it is table food and she hasn't wanted baby food for over 2 months now. She was drinking soy milk but has since decided she doesn't like it.

I know she needs to drink SOMETHING. But I don't know what to give her at this point. Putting her on formula for 2 months just to wean her off of it doesn't seem right (or cost effective) But then I know she isn't supposed ot have cows milk until she's AT LEAST 1.

She slowly went from nursing 6 times a day to 5 then 4 then 3 then 2. For the past few weeks she has been nursing only once a day, to go to bed for the night. And then she sleeps through the night. No stirring or waking up (unless she's teething or not feeling well)

When she's not feeling well, she usually nurses ALL the time. Right now she has a slight cold, and hasn't wanted to. Tori gives me little cues when she wants to nurse and I haven't seen them for over a month or so.

I feel like I was kind of forcing her to nurse the most recent few weeks. She wasn't giving me any cues at all. But I wanted to try and sustain this relationship AT LEAST until she was 1.

My only problem is that since she has been gradually cutting down on her nursing that my breasts aren't used to producing milk anymore. I know its a supply and demand thing usually but my right breast has just flat out stopped producing. I have tried everything I could think of, things people have told me to do, to get my supply up and it just hasn't worked. I got lucky earlier this year when my supply was dwindling. Fenugreek helped a ton, but not this time. Mothers Milk tea, oatmeal, tons of water, nothing has helped...

I looked on kellymom and LLL. They both had information about nursing strikes but the one characteristic that sticks out is "sudden." This has not been sudden, it has gradually been coming on.

MIL told me that Chris (my fiance) weaned himself at 11 months. Could she be following in his footsteps?

Sounds like a nursing strike to me. What I would do is before you feed her any food at all see if she will nurse. Offer her the breast every chance you get. Even if it means not doing house work for a few days. Pump as much as you can as well to get your breasts thinking they need to make more milk. I definatly would avoid cow milk until at least a year because of the allergy issues and 2yrs if there is a history of allergy in your family. At 10months old she is way to young to be without bm. The WHO says a minimum of 2yrs nursing. If she dosnt get your milk she isnt gonna get the antibodies either that will mean when she gets sick she wont have that as back up to help her get better faster and she may even get sick more.

Every drop of milk you can get into her will help. All you can do is try.
