they had a huge pow-wow on BFing...i'll try and rewind it and write what i can (thanks to my handy DVR)...

ok.

they started out by asking how long everyone nursed. the preggo guest host only 3 weeks (just too hard and there's a great thing called formula). joy nursed until 5 1/2 months. the republican nursed for 7 months with formula at night. they went into a tyrade about how formula is just as good and blah blah blah and started in on 2 yo + kids nursing...argggg!!

ETA: they were saying if your child can ask for it it's disturbing. WTH?

Gimme a break... My 14 month old asks for her "Booeeeee!!!" I'm not disturbed by that at all...we find it quite delightful!

Thanks for sharing I wouldn't watch that show if you paid me LOL!!

Oh yeah, I saw it too and I feel so bad for all the women that look up to them and will follow their views. It is disturbing and sad.

I have to wonder if they need some new publicity and are hoping for another demonstration to get them attention. I mean how many times are they going to go down this road?!?!

And yeah, I wouldn't watch that show if you paid me either. It disgusts me.

I disagree with BOTH of you. I'd consider watching this show if the pay was good enough (but I certainly won't watch it for free!!)

I saw that. I was pretty appalled.

At least, when Rosie said "if you want to nurse, nurse; if you don't, don't" Joy said "But moms really should try, because it's better for the baby."

I wanted to throw something at my screen though. Loved Elisabeth's comment about how great it is that we live in a day and age where formula is just as good as breastmilk. WTF?

And the "asking for it" stuff...That just makes me mad. Babies *always* ask to nurse--they just can't use words until they're older. Ugh, I'm angry.

Both my girls were signing 'milk' by the time they were 10 months. I guess at that point I needed to stop feeding them, huh. Oh, and my youngest would never cry EXCEPT when she was hungry. No cues, no signs, just happy to out right screaming. I guess I should have stopped feeding her b/c she was 'asking' for it.

I HATE the dopey 'asking' for it' comments.

I saw it! I was actually chatting with another MDC mama as I was watching it so I got to rant. My blood pressure rises just watching those women. Why do I torture myself? And I guess I must be "scary" because I am nursing a 3 year old. I am glad Joy spoke up about her Italian uncle nursing til he was 5 or 6. Even if they were making a joke of it, I am glad she said something.

I just don't get the "if they're old enough to ask for it...." mentality. So if a ff or baby on a sippy cup is old enough to ask for his/her bottle it should be denied too?!?!?!

I had this conversation with an anti-BFer before and no you see it's the container they object to not the product - you can pump and give the kids breastmilk until they are 25 and that's fine but give them breastmilk from a BREAST and oh my!
