Calling breast cancer survivors or women with family history

OK, so we all know the TV show The View is extremely anti-BFing. And we all know that maybe the single easiest thing everyone can do to reduce your chances of getting breast cancer is to breastfeed for as long as you can.

Well, the view is calling for

Warriors in Pink was created as part of Ford's ongoing support of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation's Race for the Cure Series.
And now, during select days in the month of October, Ford and The View will feature a Warrior of the Week.

Warriors in Pink are women who fight the battle against breast cancer, and those who stand beside them, as well as those who do their part to help end the disease for everyone, forever.

A Warrior of the Week could be a survivor who fought breast cancer and won, yet keeps fighting for the cause; a co-survivor who stood steady and strong beside another during their battle; a person who lost a loved one to the disease, but continues to wage war against it, helping raise funds and awareness.

We are looking for Warriors who live with strength, courage, love and compassion; those who will not rest until there is a cure for the disease that ends far too many women's lives far too soon.

Sounds like a wonderful way to raise awareness about reducing your risk by breastfeeding.

Anyone up for it?

I wish I wish I wish. I don't actually have a family history, but am currently going through chemo for breast cancer. Who would have thought I could possibly get breast cancer at 30 while tandem nursing a 2 yo and a 4.5 year old. Not I. Hopefully the two short years my daughter got will reduce her risk, since she now has a family history. I truly hope that someone is willing to get the word out that breastfeeding reduces your risk of breast cancer, even if it didn't work for me.

I have a friend who BF'd for a long time & had BC too. I'm thinking of you both.

My maternal grandmother died of breast cancer when my mom was 13. So, whenever I talk about how long I'll BF my youngest, I say as long as I can, since I'm reducing my risk (in theory) 4.3% for every year I BF. That's 17.2% so far.

I'd submit but I doubt I'm warrior-enough.

Ya know, it also asks for people who have a opinion on a hot topic- I think most of the women here could qualify for that one. My gma is a breast cancer survivor (both breasts) but I wasn't there much when she was fighting it.

Thanks for the link, I have an extremely high family history and would love to share that as another reason why I am extended nursing. I will certainly be writing to them
